He is King of most things he does in the garden-- I suppose 50 odd years experience counts! I hardly dare show mine--he will only laugh- LG How are your Sweetpeas coming along? I have a couple of mine flowering-only just-not even enough for a small vase full.

I would cut them biggs even if they are just a couple! the more you cut the better they grow, I cut two bunches for my two youngest granddaughters to take home for their Mum I cut all they was open and the next day I cut another bunch for myself. I dont think I have ever seen such a lovely display of sweetpeas F.B. Well Done

Biggles I agree with Maggy, even if you only have a couple, cutting them will encourage others to bloom and grow. This has been a great year for my sp too, I picked 3 big vases full when I came back and I'm trying FB's trick of adding a little sugar to the water. It does give them an extra day.

My Sweetpeas --All 7 of them--The perfume fills the room even with these few so I would think FB's room is even more powerful--with perfume.

LG Thanks for your encouragment-I only hope I haven't stripped the plant bare ;D-Bigs

Oh Biggles, FB and I sow our SP differently although we both sow them in Autumn. I sow mine in the toilet roll inners and they live outside until I plant them into their growing places in Jan or Feb. I can't really sow direct because where they will be growing would'nt get enough light and there would'nt be room for them until then. Whichever you do you'll get good strong fully hardy plants by sowing in the autumn.

Mine are still flowering but not like FB's - I think next year I will put them in a sunny spot I am not sure which colour I like the best but am very partial to the delicate lavender tinged with pink

I think I might just try your way LG and start them off in the inner cardboard Toilet Roll. I could also put a few in the ground where they are to grow and do them like FB and see how I get along (with both Trials--) I have one or two Giant Wave in a packet so will use them next year- Jenny What seed are you going to use? Is FB giving you any?

Normally when folk pinch out their sweetpea they throw the tops away. Some of you may know that I did'nt this year and decided to try to grow on the strongest and biggest of them and see how they did. As you can see they've done brilliant, really strong long stemmed blooms. Plants for free, can't be bad and worth doing in my humble opinion. Here they are growing beside the Clematis Hagley Hybrid.

Do you root the pinchings in water L.G. or just put them straight into compost?? I would never have thought of that!! and how big were your pinchings?
