I know it's an obvious thing to say but isn't it amazing how woodpecker from thousands of miles away have the same colours and patterns but just arranged in a different way? I sat and watched the Spotted Woodpecker this morning through the window as he flitted from tree to tree and finally landed on the peanut hanger, he looked remarkably like this one but his red patch is on his lower body, not on his head like this little beauty. I do think Nature is a marvellous thing ;D

As I feared might happen my lovely Beach Hut feeding thingy has been blown to smithereens.... I made it years ago out of the bamboo base of one of those funny round chairs that were fashionable years ago, some of that twig fencing they sell in GC's and twine. It was hung on the top of a rustic pole and adorned with all sort of hangers and feeding contraptions using butcher's hooks.....sob...I was so proud of my Beach Hut... The birds were all hovering about the wreckage so I quickly nailed some willow poles I have been saving horizontally across the pole and have hung all the hangers back up. They are all tied on with bright blue baler twine as it is so windy...I am sooo stylish ;D The birds don't seem to mind - a long tailed tit and several blue tits were sitting in the Silver Birch literally about 3' away while I was out there bodging up a replacement! I think that's amazing...

It's no wonder the birds like it. I went through your garden thread and realised before I went to pick the boys up, I needed a dose of my going green tablets!! Actually had a double dose! Keith

You would be very welcome hunny too! X I gotta rebuild some sort of lid to my beach hut...it looks naked without it and I am worried about birds of prey now.....there are quite a few about here and OH has actually seen a bird taken by a peregrine as he stood in the garden. I want the little ones to feel secure when they feed - there are sooo many of them atm. Any suggestions? Anyone got an old round bamboo chair rotting in their shed? ;D PS If I can't construct using baler twine, string and plastic ties, I can't do it....... :

Then if needed, thatch the roof. What bird did the peregrine go for, 4P? I know it's distressing, but the peregrine has to live too. Beginning of last week, I found blackbird feathers in our garden, but 90% convinced it was a cat. It was one of 'my' blackbirds', too!! I always get upset with the programmes showing zebra crossing rivers for the odd one to get taken by crocs. But if they weren't there would be zebra everywhere, wouldn't there? I don't mind seeing robins pulling worms out of the soil, but the worm aren't very cute, are they? Keith

What about one of these? £15 from woollies, also in green and turquoise? You could use an old parasol of you own, and cover with willow, or you can get sea grass strands on ebay, Just cement a piece of pipe in and bodge the handle into the hole or summat

They are perfect except for the colours! Not very wildlife friendly...but that's the sort of thing I want. I have an old wood barrel that has rotted away leaving just the hoops which I might be able to use. Got loads of twiggy stuff from Mum's hedges being chopped down at the weekend.....how to fasten it all though? Thanks for ideas though X
