Well that was very sad. The lady who owned the kitty says she'll never let her other kitty out again. She'd let the cats go outside when she was out. They stayed in her yard and they'd come in when she was done in the garden. Seems a neighbour two doors down set out poison in her shed to control her mouse problem. Here's something nicer .... American Goldfinch:

Oh dear.......what a great shame about the cat, poor thing, not an easy death either. And poor lady, it's so upsetting when an animal dies so needlessly.
Very pretty little bird! Isn't nature amazing?

Oh The witch! He's a beauty! Do they stay all year? The one's that we have are more summer seasonal. Maybe in other warmer parts of the USA they stay all the time but ours have already left.

Liked your pictures, we have grey and white herons here.
Although the grey ones are very common, the white one is very rare and sacred to the local Maori.

Nuthatch: I bet half a second after the shutter clicked he was gone, he looks intent on something, probably lunch. A very pretty bird though.

They are not very shy birds but you are right .. they are VERY quick! Like they've had a double espresso and just can't stand still for more than a few seconds. LOL! Sometimes they don't even wait for the feeders to be filled before them come to start eating! The Downy Woodpeckers and Black-capped Chickadees do the same.

Hi Chickadeedeedee,
I've worked my way through the thread a couple of times now and the photographs are beautiful. Do you ever exhibit them?
I've also found the ones of the fox on another thread - stunning!

I honestly dunno! I *suspect* they are turkey-ish in taste but have never eaten a wild turkey. During the Autumn months there are 'turkey shoots' in the area every weekend. Turkeys are released and *brave* hunters go out and blast them away. I saw one as a road-kill this afternoon. I thought it was a tragic waste of life. C3D

Wow! What a brilliant photo! I often get one or two spotted woodpeckers hanging off the peanuts on my beach hut but there's no way I could get a photograph of them....they are much too shy and quick for me. It's lovely to see them like that. X

Hi Miss 4P. I *think* that was a family outing of Dad and the kids. He was demonstrating how to get things done during their picnic. We'll sometimes get up to 6 Downy WPs at a time but they are soooo fast and just will not pose for a group photo. ;D
