Well, wasn't that a nice evening's viewing? So nice to have Friday nights back....I missed most of the Open Gardens programme but never mind. Then Kew - love that man's job at Wakehurst, hedge laying etc - isn't he lucky? And then Gardener's World. I do love that programme. Sigh......and synchronicity played its part - smallest and OH were out for the evening so I could concentrate. Which was nice.

I've taped it because I'm watching Comic Relief...most of it's pretty harrowing...but pretty good too...just seen the Proclaimers...am I a nerd? I really like them

There's nothing wrong with the Proclaimers, is there?? I don't watch Comic Relief I'm afraid. I find it all a bit too strange - filthy rich celebrities and really tragic children. I know it's a very worthy cause and everything and I would never question the wonderful generosity of the general public but I find the whole thing a bit difficult. So if you're a nerd, I must be something far worse....

I watched some of Comic Relief and it was great to see the Proclaimers! I like some of their stuff and OH said that he really should have an album for his collection. I really liked the Catherine Tate/David Tennant school sketch - I haven't seen much of her but thought the sketch was brilliant. I missed Kate Moss being a chav though ;D

Put me down for the Proclaimers as well. Missed all of Friday night. Got dragged out to a local church by Mrs C to see some project in India. The best bit was the food - all Indian but the puddings were fantastic.

Christine Walkden is enough to put a keen gardener off gardening altogether, OH and I saw her last year at Kings Heath Park garden show and he was so bored he fell asleep during her talk, which prompted her to shout BANG! right in the middle of a sentence, it woke OH up, and most of the rest of the audience too! I saw her programme tonight, and shes the same on-screen as she is in real life, bloomin irritating! I learned nothing from her rattling except how daft she is ....aaaaaaaarrgh! I quite enjoyed the NGS show before it, and GW after wasnt bad either crafty how the BBC tucked Christine in the middle to gain a captive audience

I really enjoyed GW - I thought they were trying hard to be more broad ranging and I am looking forward to seeing how Carol's little veg plot works - not convinced yet.... I'm a bit iffy about that whole NGS thing. I don't like the way they tell you what you have to do to "improve" your garden. Seems a bit against the spirit of the thing really.....and lots of posh ladies demanding I make my garden more interesting/tidy/blah blah would really get my hackles up. Not that there's any danger at all of me being asked to "open"!! I didn't like that "designed" garden at all. Too much hard landscaping for me. That Christine lady just has no screen presence at all! Which is a bit of a shame as I'm sure she's a very knowledgeable woman. It's alright for one programme p'raps but not TWO series.......

I'm really enjoying the National Garden Schemes programme - last night that lady put in the gravel garden and I would have been gutted for her if she hadn't got in!! Carol is such a lovely lady and it's nice to see her doing such a lot more than just Gardeners World. I wish they'd do Carol's Garden rather than Christine's Garden though. I tuned in last night hoping Christine might have mellowed a bit, but no she's the same annoying person. I could really understand her glee at finding all the plants in the woodland but for some reason found it incredibly annoying - I can't put my finger on it but I'm afraid I think it's just her. Reg is so lovely though, and I think that makes her look worse!!! ;D And I'm afraid I'm just not getting pleasure out of GW at the moment - perhaps it's me but it just seems dull at the moment. I like the presenters but it's lacking something.

Well. Although I didn't enjoy the first two I REALLY loved GW..I thought that it was great this week Maybe it's got something to do with the fact that OH is taking an interest...took my mind off my cough and earole... ... I like Carole but don't like the programme much. How many people do you know who have gardens big enough to keep a visitor amused for 45 minutes? (although of course I have nothing against those who DO!)...just reminds me how small our plot is....

My garden would keep a visitor amused for about 45 seconds so you can forget 45 minutes!!!!!

I managed to forget she was on Maggyd! ;D I am not keen on her and can vouch for the fact that she`s no different in real life than she is on TV !

I really enjoyed GW too. Looking forward to seeing how the pond progresses. And how good was it to see Carol sowing wild flowers? I do hope they put some of them actually into the long borders. There are some absolutely gorgeous ones which would definitely enhance any planting scheme. That would really be radical! I've never understood why there has to be a distinction - it makes so much more sense to spread them round a garden where they can attract insects and birds, rather than confine them to one special "wild" area. That would make the purists squawk and send the TV gardening thread on the Beeb boards in hysterics! I might just break my silence on the Beeb to say that and see if Monty answers..........has Carol got an email address anywhere, does anyone know?

I like the idea iof growing British Native plants...but tend to grow their more showy nursery-bred cousins...I like to see wild scabious if I'm out walking...but ADORE my scabiosa 'Ace of Spades' (or 'Lemmie' as I call it)
I watched Christine...largely because I was trapped on the sofa by an extra heavy quilt and was too feeble to move...I don't think it was THAT bad. You can't say she lacks enthusiasm...and although she can be a bit irritating (can't we all?) she does know more than me about gardening and I'll take my knowledge from wherever I can get it! ;D

Aren't you getting any better Cheery? I liked Christine I thought her very knowledgeable, I don't think Ive seen her before but she is certainly down to earth and very friendly, I wouldn't mind a neighbor like her at least Id have someone to water my garden when I'm away. ;D

Wasn't GW good last night? I do enjoy the hour long ones - they are so much more constructive and informative. I thought they did some good all round stuff - even Sarah Raven was practical and not OTT. My what a lovely garden she has.......and sooo nice to see Geoff again. I watched GW avidly when I was a student - everyone thought I was really dull! He is as relevant now as then as far as I'm concerned. What a great man. I really wish he was still around...
