Now here's a funny thing: I just had a peek in my seed trays in the bathroom. I have them in those plastic mushroom trays, sealed in plastic bags, two fit nicely in a bag, to keep the temperature as even as I can. There are Anise Hyssop and Gazania seeds in one bag - both have germinated - the Gazanias are about 1/4" tall and the Anise Hyssop are tiny still but in the AH tray there is 1 really tall seedling, over an inch now, which has appeared - not looking anything like any of the seeds I sowed at the same time....funny that.....

Year before last I got a small numex twilight at the GW Live plant swop. It was v small and it was mid June...so I'm hoping that my seeds are just following a trend and will germinate late.....sigh. My chillis and peppers took a while to germinate last year too.

In the heated propagator:-
Pepper Mini-sweet Chilli Numex Twilight (AT LAST!) Helenium Verbena rigida (had been in the CF to chill)
In unheated propagators in the conservatory:-
Veronica longifolia Lysmachia Alsonia Lavendula augustifolia
AND...a first for me....Mecenopsis Lingholm in the CF ;D
Nothing big enough to prick out in that lot, but there are plenty of others ready for that...plan to do some on Friday.

I did some pricking out this arvo....
French marigold 'Queen Sophia' and 'Red Brocade'. Delphinium Chinensis 'Blue Butterfly' Oriental Poppy 'Victoria Cross' Gerbera Californian Giants mixed Verbena 'Compact' mixed.
I'll have to cut down the amount of seedlings that I'm pricking out else I'll run out of space...I do hate chucking perfectly good seedlings, but I spose I have to be sensible ;D

Despite my enforced neglect all the trays of seeds in the bathroom have all come up - even the perennial grass seed which I'm pleased about, I made Mum and smallest take them into the conservatory yesterday and tuck them up with fleece. I have to slow them down a bit now. I hope the shock doesn't do for them...I hate being ill - I have loads of seeds to sow.

Yesterday I sowed 5 types of tomato, dwarf sweet peas, black-eyed Susans and some seeds that my son bought back from the Canary Islands over a year ago and which I had forgotten - Strelitzia, Cobaea scandens, Passiflora and Water Melon! God knows what I'll do with water melon if it comes up!

God knows what I'll do with water melon if it comes up! I do hope your Strelitzia come through for you, they are such a beautiful plant and the flowers are just amazing! We have plenty here, but then our climate is more Mediterranean than yours. If they make it, do take a picture or two and show us! As for the water melon, if it comes up, the best thing to do is eat it.! ;D You scoop out the contents, mix with ice cream, then put back in the shell to make a really nice dessert! ;D Or just eat it on its own on one of the hot days that are coming your way, they are very refreshing! ;D

I spent a happy afternoon pricking out.... it's sooooo difficult to discard any leftovers, but I had to be strong : I'm like that too, even with full grown plants. If I have to change a plant in the garden, I have to find it a place somewhere else for the one I am replacing. Is that 'mad' or what? Keith

Still only one musa...but it's still alive which is pleasing.
I had a potter in the GH and garden this arvo. I used to hate chucking plants too Keith...but I'm a lot more mercenary these days...I allus ask around to see if anyone wants the plant I'm getting rid of...but if I have no takers they get composted...
Today two dead clematis sieboldii went in the bin...and a manky lavender, and a poorly osteospermum.... ;D It must be spring.
AND it looks like one of my trillium plants (Hartington white hibrid) is coming up...and the meadow orchid I got from Malvern last year.....is this the wrong thread? sorry.... ;D

everything has germinated...as well as the ones in the previous post I have sown Mina Lobata, ipomoea cardinal and Morning Glory...most have germinated and EVERYTHING needs pricking out!
I spent over 2 hours pricking out lysimachia, eryngium, helenium, greek oregano, tree basil, coleus and angelonia....potted on some verbena as well...still got loads to prick out.
The only sowing left for me to do is the new mini-heavenly blue ipomoea (May) and some of the veg... ;D

I've spent nearly all day pricking out seed trays....I've got 80 alpine Strawberries, 140 Anemanthele lessoniana (sp?), a huge tray of Erigeron, some Gerberas, and loads of small trays of native plants. I can't believe how long it takes...... I'm pleased the Grass (Anemanthele) has done so well as I've never grown any from seed before. The packet says it contains 100 seeds so I think I got more than my fair share with every seed germinating! It is supposed to like dry shade so if anyone wants any of the plants let me know as I have far too many, likewise with the alpine Strawberries. Maybe I can bring them up to the BBQ? They are too small to bring to Kew. I intended to sow all the Sunflowers and the rest of the hardy annuals and make a start on the perennials too but I ran out of time, energy and seed trays : Plus I want to sow Mick's cactus seeds - I shall to make a trip to the GC to buy more modules and some JI seed compost tomorrow...what a great shame...
