I thought it might be fun to keep a record on here so we can see how we're doing. It might make me more efficient , praps, maybe.....I've been growing seeds for getting on for 40 years now (gulp) but it never fails to give me a thrill when I see the first uncurlings .... amazing! So far I have sowed: Sweet peas - germinated, moved to cons. Early peas - germinated, moved to cons. Sanguisorba Helenium - sooo tiny and bright yellow seeds. Lovely little things. Musk Mallow - just starting Rudbeckia Gaillardia - just starting Echinops - germinated Bronze Fennel Cerinthe
I start them off in my warm unoccupied bathroom on a Imperial size drawing board over the bath and then move them to my unheated conservatory when they're big enough. The above were only sown last Sunday morning. The only problem I have is getting family to shut the door if they go in there as my elderly cats think they are handy litter trays.........grrr...

Just seen the first Fennel seedlings and ONE Sanguisorba which I'm really pleased about as I reallyreallyreally want this plant in a long swathe in my flower garden. No sign of the Helenium or Rudbeckia yet though I know I'm getting too impatient but I have a LOT of seeds to sow.......the wonderful and gorgeous Cerinthe seedlings are coming up well though I am particularly pleased about those as they are all seeds I collected. They're quite expensive for some reason - they seed really well and are dead easy to collect - I've got about 300! Still I want lots everywhere...... ooh, just remembered - I must get some parsnips seeds today - I sowed them in loo roll tubes about this time last year in the cold conservatory and they did really well.

The tiny tiny first signs of the Sanguisorba and Helenium starting this morning. Which is nice. And I've just had a poke around my seed boxes and and, oh dear, I need quite a lot of herb seeds.......And, oh dear, they're all for selling so I can spend a bit more on them and get quite a lot of different packets. In't that a shame?

This afternoon I have sown a tray each of French Parsley, Curled Parsley, Oriental Poppies and Creeping Thyme which are in my warm bathroom. A tray of Elecampane and another 24 Meteor Peas are in the conservatory. I've taken the seedlings of San Marzano, Gardeners Delight, Moneymaker Tomatoes and a little tray with 7 Sweetheart Melons in it round to Mum's much warmer window sills as I've run out of room already. I resisted the temptation to sow Morning Glory, Lavender and Pot Marjoram.....dunno if I will be able to tomorrow! I shall have to rig up something in the PT with bubble wrap and sellotape next week....packets and packets to sow for the next 2 months

You've been busy 4P - as usual I haven't sown any seeds this year because of moving house BTW have you tried scattering your poppy seeds directly where you want them in the garden?

Wotcha! Is this a personal seed diary or can anyone play? I'm astounding myself at my restraint actually when it comes to sowing! I pricked out some gaillardia and dwarf bedding echiums into trays, hollyhocks and tomato (gartenperle) into 3" square pots. I moved the verbena bonariwotsit, rudbekia, coleus, brachycome and some others (can't remember them all) out of the heated propagator into ordinary ones in a well lit spot in the conservatory. I was going to sow more seed...but looking at the seedlings I've got so far they do look a bit leggy...so I'm going to wait a week or two (in theory) before I start on owt else. Still no sign of germination in the heated propagator of kangaroo paw, trachycarpus fortunei or ensete ventriculosum...

Hurray, the creeping thyme has germinated! Still no sign of any Sanguisorba apart from one brave little soul. I have another lot to sow now as my Suffolk Herbs seeds arrived yesterday. A packet of the yellow Knapweed (Centaurea macrocephala) which I can't wait to get started as they are gorgeous plants, plus Buttercup (Ranunculous),Greater Knapweed(Centaurea scabiosa), Bellflower (Campanula glomata),Harebell (Campanula rotundifolia) - s'gorgeous wild flower, And Wild Chamomile (Matricaria recutitia). MUST NOT sow my Basil seeds yet though......oh, and I'm having another go at Heliotrope this year too. So many seeds, so little time...and space!

Had to visit the GC this morning for bird food and I got trapped in the seed section - it was terrible.I bought a packet of Taste of Italy seeds - Basil genovese - 4000 seeds for £1.69! Very cheap I thought. Still unable to escape I noticed the Heavenly Blue Morning Glory and the Little Gem Lettuce so HAD to get them. That meant I could have a free packet so I got Sphaeralcea Los Brisas which I've never heard of. A half hardy perennial -"the silky chalice shaped, mallow blooms are produced on tall slender stems in an impressive array of colours", pinks through to purple's from late Summer to Autumn. Worth £2.99. So that was nice. Then I booted an old lady out of the way, leapt over a trolley, made a dash to the checkout and managed to get out.

I can't help myself - I am going to sow my Morning Glory today. Last year Cheery and I sowed them much too early and they got all leggy and mad but I think March is alright. It says so on the packet anyway! I really love that heavenly blue colour so I plan to have a lot of it this year!
Am I talking too much? I seem to have my name all over the place........

4P you can't have enough talking - I think it's my name dominating everything at the moment so I'm off now to give someone else a chance. ;D Some of my B&Q Butterfly collection I planted in January are doing well, I didn't expect them to start so quickly, my mixed Geraniums have just sprouted but nothing yet from the Petunias

OOOO! My Sanguisorba babies look like they're starting I am clucking over them like an over anxious mother but I REALLY love these plants. I saw them in the Piet Oudolf garden at a bird sanctuary at Fakenham ( forget the name at the mo) and they are so pretty - tall and lovely little dark red flowers (like Salad Burnet's flowers - same family I think). I hope they grow all right....

My sweet peas are about 2" tall now...should I sow some more? I only sowed 6 pots as I only have a small space. My eatable peas seedlings are quite big too...I ought to sow some more soon...maybe tomorrow...my back's giving me a bit of jip now after I wrestled with my fan palm (humilis) to get it out of the pot in the front garden...it's in the back garden's flower bed now ;D and the phoenix palm I bought 2 weeks or so ago from Wilkinson's is in the pot out front...
