I've had a lovely day in the garden. It was quite warm so I spent half an hour sitting down at lunchtime just doing nothing much. Round that I made a new raised bed, filled it (went to the playing fields for mole hills to mix with my farmyard manure - mad lady in yellow rubber gloves on the loose ), planted out my courgettes and my minibel tomatoes and planted up my hanging baskets that go by the front door. Still have so much that I need to do. Oh, I also planted my gladiolas as I was worried about time getting on and that they wouldn't flower until November at this rate.

Good idea about the molehills jasmine O.H. keeps telling me what good soil it is only the only place I know of is along side the A174 near us and I would have all the neighbours thinking Im crazy I have seen a blooke doing just that though he wasnt bothered.

The only problem with molehill soil is it contains tiny roots of the weeds that the moles have tunnelled through, in the case of the playing fields - buttercups. I am getting quite good at finding the little white thread like roots! Folk must think I'm mad - I go round there with my wheelbarrow sometimes if there are lots of molehills - not worried what folk think though - more worried about someone shouting at me and asking me what I think I'm doing! Planted on my 5 bargain clematises from Morrisons yesterday so I have some extra time to think where they are going to go!

That could be mice Jenny - they love the shoots of glads and irises (think we might have chatted about this before). Apparently it's not too late for glads or dahlias and so it is a good time to snap up any bargains there might be as GC's try to get rid of them.

Got quite a bit to buy at B & Q this weekend; trellis, sweet pea ties, containers and hopefully if they sell raised beds - the ones you clip together

I get my raised beds from Crocus Jenny. They are quite reasonable if you use the 90838 discount - 20% off your order and the p+p. Seems to me Maggy that Morrisons have a garden bargain each week at this time of the year. I could kick myself - they had bargain trees and shrubs a few weeks ago and I missed out on getting a magnolia susan. I am going tomorrow to see what bargains are to be had this week - it was fuchsias last week.

Planted out my sweetcorn and vanilla ice sunflowers today and gave everything a really good watering. The garden is very dry and the bit of rain we've had hasn't gone down very deep.

We bought some more pots this morning as I had run out for potting on! Also needed some more compost, but forgot my canes! Have potted on some plants which arrived on Thursday - Rudbeckia, marigolds, gazanias, dahlias, asters, cosmos, stocks, nicotiana and somthing else (oops forgotten name) - 21 of each for £26! Had to move everything round to fit them into the little plastic greenhouse and cold frame. Regardless of the weather some things will have to go outside tomorrow! And planted some bush beans emsey sent me! Wanted to replant one of our large stone pots but realised the clems in there which had been broken have grown and one is in bud but tangled up into another plant - think positively, it's been trained to grow through a green shrub! And we have cut the grass - well hubby has. Just remembered, we have tidied the garage as well - everything is now back on the shelves - found a large box of spring bulbs I haven't planted!

FB You are being very modest--Your garden is in pristine condition! All those years of hard work has paid off. Any photographs of your Datura (Bruganmansia sp?) I have been moving my tulips -to make room for some plants that I ordered from a couple who live only 5 miles away. I bought some last year-they were healthy plants and was well pleased with them. (Only half the price than the GC) in fact probally only covers the cost of the compost- Has anyone else started to Plant out Summer flowering plants yet? I posted this photograph on 'Banter Box--"Oops--There he goes again" ;D Is it FB or my OH? ;D My apologies for duplicating a Post--Bigs

I always plant mine in Clumps Maggs--they make a better show and planting individually is so time consuming it is not worth the trouble! ;D The Slugs and Snails love them--

I ran out of pots too, its all the sunflowers! You do realize when you hand surpless plants out, thats another pot gone, till suddenly you've none! Luckily I scrounged some of Petal. Yesterday I potted even more sunflowers on. Put some living stone daisies in a little planter I have. Planted out my bush beans, just a wigwam of 5 plants, I have two spare in the GH still. I'm not happy with the germination of the galaxy runner beans, give it more time, 2 healthy plants, two shrivelled looking jobbies and about 4 no shows yet, I only have room for 6 plants. I had a hoe round. I'd like to replace a few peas and sweet peas with my back ups if the weather allows today, and plant some more salad as the last lot is coming along now. Oh Holly and i planted another pot of carrots yesterday too.

Hello Melanie, FB and JennyW--You were all up early-- Yes the weather isn't too good for gardening-so just aswell you are at work ;D FB--I knew that couldn't be you in that deckchair--more like my OH--He usually sits and watches me do the work- ;D--Seriously though I try to keep him away from my plants--he has been know to think they are weeds-- Mel--Have you a large lawn to mow? the grass seems to grow faster each time it is cut--Bigs

Well it seems big when I have to mow it, lol! But no, it's a small yard.
It has a lot of plants growing in it, weeds, ground covering, thick tall grass, which the mower sucks at cutting. I don't know what to do besides taking scissors to it (I don't have any other equipment -haha!)

Melanie--Get that camera out and lets have a peek at your "back-yard" I am sure it is not as bad as you describe!! And if it is maybe we can help you with it? (Ha-Ha) Jas-- I think that is awful having to use your time off for interviewing--especially Bank Holiday week--Hope it was worth it in the long run--Bigs
