I cut Plastic Lemonade bottles into 'rings' about 4" depth and slit the side so I can put this round the plant-it keeps the slugs away becaue they cant climb up the shiny plastic and maybe add a couple of slug pellets in the circle just in case there is a 'Clever little B***er* who manages it- ;D I hope have described this method alright! If not I will photograph one to show you what I do--Bigs

He put a plant in the middle of a herb ring and different slug remedies in each section. Coffee grounds, prickly twigs, beer, oranges, eggs shells. the camera was trained on some snails he released and they all reached the plants, some stopped for some beer but carried on.

Those look mouth wateringly good--Will you have them roasted for your Sunday Dinner? If we follow your advice we should get similar results then? Probally not because we are just Novices at growing them. ;D

That's great Maggie, they'll just look after themselves now then apart from needing a bit of water.

Just checking Biggles, your seed is fresh isn't it. Parsnips don't do well from old seed. It might be a good idea to put some on some damp kitchen paper for a few days and see if they make a little root and then sow them. It saves you sowing seed that is'nt going to work.

FB that's really quick well done. The seeds I sowed 20/march are up in their toilet roll inners so I need to get them planted this week if I can. I'm well impressed as they were last years seed and I was'nt really sure they'd germinate.

I've got mine planted now in their container of a mixture of mp compost and some clay from my own garden. They've been well watered in with the rain we've been having. As soon as they get their own leaves I'll post a picture. The others sown at the end of Dec. are doing great with their little leaves showing well now.
