I had two sprouted bags of parsnip seeds, just sprinkled them into my boarders. I was going to plant them carefully but got fed up, Louis 'helping' wasn't helping either I promise I'll put the other bag carefully into a container.

Dont worry Maggs-- I put mine in Compost to start with-(to get them going) then I plant the whole toilet tube in the soil as Digga suggested (Ordinary garden soil) Mine were fine last year. I just had five in one container--it gave us a couple of meals -for two-

I will have to check but i'm sure we didn't do ours until march / April last year - straight into the ground - a mixture of soil and old compost. They grew like crazy to begin with then slowed down. Think it was due to me not feeding them later in the year. Finally earlier this month when the ground wasn't frozen we dug them up for Sunday dinner - Rob was laughing his head off saying they would be no good. UMmm.... They were smaller than they should have been, but very tasty. Hoping for even better results this year. Good luck all. xx

I put them in around new years day biggs I have some I germinated on paper in a window box, there are a few in there look OK ATM and there is another window box I sowed seeds straight into about 4 weeks ago, I put pellets on the top of it yesterday as I can see a slug has been in there. I scattered a few seeds into my boarders too, so all may not be lost.

Another 2 germinated! Maggy when you finally sow them out, if you have used the cardboard Loo Rolls bury them complete with the cardboard roll into a Container approx 12"-18" depth--with Garden Soil mixed with a little bit of compost--they dont need any nourishment--and dont need to be fed at all--(They fork otherwise) This size container will take about 5 Parsnip plants--or mine did last year--Others may have more idea than me--
