What a really pleasant programme GW from the Malvern Show tonight, I thoroughly enjoyed it - nothing too OTT, lots of plants and nurseries and a very interesting look behind the scenes which I watched avidly - GWL is not quite so scary now - they all seemed really lovely, and ordinary people I thought, maybe we won't be laughed out of the showground next month after all..... ;D

I know it's silly but it really did make me feel better! I am NOT panicking anymore (not at the moment anyway!) ;D I loved that garden made of recycled bits - the one with the cycle wheel trellis - I'd have that in my garden...

I saw that bit - I'd just got back from a long drive, so only stared moronically at it while I recovered.... I could NOT spend that amount of time, money and care on a lawn.....it looked amazing though I must say. Brushing it before cutting? Good grief..............

Well, putting aside my personal prejudice against Ms deThame after GWL, it was OK I suppose......apart from the fact that I found her OTT planning a bit irksome (I don't think it's necessary to be that anal), I was jealous of her being able to go out and buy all those plants, and I thought the end result was a tad dull and flat...not very good really, in fact! Mean aren't I? But honestly I think it was done more for the camera's benefit than her own and it showed....I bet she changed it almost completely once the camera had gone... I thought it was odd that we got about a picsecond's look at the finished border and then even less of how it looks a year later...... she has a beautiful house though, and I really liked her herb garden.

me too...loved the herb garden The border wasn't my cup of tea, but I think that she was demonstrating how she went about planning and planting up a border that incorporated plants that she really likes, I like grasses but thought that she went a bit OTT with them... ...what did you think of her method of suppressing weeds then? oh nettle-maiden?

...what did you think of her method of suppressing weeds then? oh nettle-maiden? I don't think it has any chance of working at all! It's only a temporary solution at best and in a while the weeds will have rooted all over the bark, grown through the membrane and she'll have just as big a problem as before.......IMO..... I know this cos I have tried it! It was a rubbish idea...................................... :

I agree with you ladies.
Ms R de T is sort of gardening eye candy but the border was pretty dull.
I'm sure they can do better.
