Another lovely Monty Don Around the World last night. I LOVELOVELOVE the Moroccan gardens - I would love a peaceful area with a pond like that to go and sit in. I'm not so enamoured of the Italianate style though - far too structured and controlled for me, although I enjoyed the amazing water works. It was very interesting to see it all. I hope Elsie saw the gorgeous little Patio Festival gardens in Spain - all those lovely summer pots - I thought of her straightaway! One day I will get to the Alhambra Palace.......

Can't remember which garden it was, but loved the water 'rills' flowing on the side of the steps. I coukld see me playing Pooh sticks all day there! But then it was sacred water, so maybe not. There seemed to have been a lot of water in this one, still enjoyed, though I still felt like it was a holiday programme, maybe I will always think that! Keith

Well, so far, after 2 programmes, I have to say I do like this new format for GW. Carol's programme, hosted from her own garden, last night was full of interesting, wide ranging stuff. Last week's was from Berryfield with Monty so presumably next time we get Joe with his new allotment, I missed the very end. : They seem to be covering a lot of topics so I'm looking forward to the series - I wonder if they want a knackered garden in East Anglia to use as a subject?? ;D

Or a wilderness allotment in Dorset? : They can come and do whatever! It'll be an improvement. ;D

I really enjoyed it! Carol seems to have toned down a bit, and the gardens she showed us were spectacular. Im going to watch it again, on replay. This time Im going to be on my own, no interruptions ;D

Same as ever! Nothing the docs give me stops my coughing or sinus problems and now the hayfever season is upon me! At least my OH has realised that I am not supposed to do a lot of heavy lifting until my op, which is nice. He just bought the goat and chicken feed sacks out of the car for me. I'm alright though - I'm a tough old Norfolk troll fortunately ;D Thanks for asking

I saw two gardening programmers last week. The Top Gear meets ground force program on Friday. Which was hilarious, it was a interesting way of shifting weeds and rookeries and the bar-b-que was something else.
The other was Monty Dom in South Africa. I have not seen low hedges trimmed with a batter, but it looks a good idea as a way of getting light down to the base of the bush

I love Top Gear, as do my two boys, but when I watched it live with Jennifer and Craig, I thought it was hilarious, but watching it a second time with Stephen, kept thinking about the mess they had made! Shooting bulbs coming up and tree branches still on the tree, what if there were any birds up there? Maybe I shouldn't have watched it the second time!! Still to watch Monty from Sunday, though we both think (especially Jennifer) they are really holiday programmes. Keith

I cant stand that idiot in Top Gear : (because he thinks all caravaners are a pain) LIKE HE ISNT!! Im talking about that Jeromy bloke! I watched him when we were at Chippin Norton he was putting a carrier bag in the back of a car !! he was being sarcastic about the size of the boot! He must of tried 10 takes before he got it right!! talk about being paid for nothing. Oh and I watched last Fiday,s G.W on catchup I really enjoyed it Sunday morning but Ive missed all the others you have been talking about ! I havent seen M.D. since he was in China and Japan.

Jer emy, is a pain and he knows it too. I do understand his views on people with caravans to a degree, but he sensationises them too much. When I towed a caravan and knew I was holding up traffic, I pulled over, how many do that? You are legally obliged, whatever you are driving, to pull over if you are causing a jam behind you. I never needed to pull over that much, as I was able to keep up OK. Still remember driving home the first time and was doing 77mph down the motorway, forgetting I had over 85% of my vehicles weight strapped to my towbar! I had a good stabliser fitted, so that helped. The last Monty Don programme last night.....I seem to be in a minority but I have throughly enjoyed the whole series - I've found it fascinating, challenging and intriguing. I would quite happily watch another whole series of Monty travelling about finding out how other peoples and cultures garden. I haven't seen it as a holiday/travel programme at all actually - it's always interesting to see how other people live in countries I am unlikely ever to be able to visit - but I thought Monty's take on the gardening/horticulture of the places he visited made it much more than a travelogue. It was really quite a life affirming set of programmes and has made me realise that our love of plants and gardening could be another thing to bring us all together when there are so many things which are driving us apart globally.

I have enjoyed them, 4P, just wish they could have been less travel programmey. I still have the last two to watch, they are still on my HD! Did anyone see last Friday's GW, with Joe and his design programme. It was dreadful, especially the 'blue' trees ruining a lovely scene. Even Craig was saying no all the time. No, you can't do that or no way, that's wrong! It's caused a quite a stir on the BBC boards as well, with maybe 5% actually liking it! I like Joe, but this should have been a series of programmes on design shown maybe at Christmas time, not when everyone is seed sowing! Keith

Wasn't GW much better tonight, except for Joe talking to the wrong camera, that is!!? Great piece by Alys on woodland planting, want to see more of her. No Monty for 6 weeks, has he got health problems?
After last week's programme, this was a marked improvement. Do you think it was altered, as wasn't there supposed to be a bit with Joe's family going to the allotment?

I enjoyed it...last week's was more 'exciting' imo ;D but as always I LOVE to see them planting. I reckon Alys will have more of an input eventually...she has to get used to presenting first. Anyway, Carol marvelous as always...and Joe's getting quite sensible about what he's got to cope with! I think I agree with the other allotment holders about the beds...they may look pretty but will his yield be reduced because the surface area he can access/plant is less than it would be in a uniform square plot? I dunno...I know nothing about allotments. GW wiyout Monty.... I'll miss him

I really enjoyed it (much prefer the previous theme tune though). I like it that they have decided to split it into different threads, geographically as well as topically, I think it makes it more relevant to the viewers. I do NOT believe that Joe did all that work at his allotment but hey, it IS a telly programme so who cares?? I hope Monty is just off to make another batch of Gardens Around the World but who knows? It won't be as good without him but it's still the best/only gardening programme on terrestrial TV so I shall keep watching with a positive attitude. I do like that Alys lady - nice and sensible and full of information.

Let's hope he comes back strong, as GW is not the same without him. Don't want him doing a GH, do we?

No! I still miss Geoff.....Monty's style is in a similar vein I suppose, which is why I like him. (Wasn't is lovely to see Geoff in that clip the other week? I remember it all so well) I expect Monty didn't give himself enough time to recuperate after his emergency operation last year and trawling through all those countries in the steaming heat must have been difficult on occasion. GW is not as good without him as the linkman but now Carol has toned down her orgasmic trilling at every plant she is pretty good IMO.

Nobody will EVER replace Geoff I am sure (I'm watching a re run of him now) and I have always said, one of the problems with Monty is, it's not his garden.
