My courgette in a pot is still small compared with yours FC, which looks wonderful. My dwarf beans in a pot are doing better and have some flowers appearing though. I was in a queue in Beatties deli once with Felicity Kendal, she was buying cheese. Her family lived in Solihull.

I noticed last night that 2/3 of the Gardeners Delight toms are just turning! Ooh, I love them only just red and still firm (as it were..)..I shall have them today while no one else is about - straight from the vine...

4P, I take it they're in the greenhouse or PT?
Mine are in the open and no sign of red yet.

In the polytunnel..I never grow toms outside now. Or in the greenhouse actually. I get a much better crop in the PT...

Hi 4P, I hope you don't mind me asking, but my sister is thinking of getting a polytunnel. I don't know anyone with one, would you recommend them? I certainly would FC! I lovelovelove mine.....although it has its disadvantages.....they get very very hot very quickly in the summer, they need to have very good ventilation and they need watering a lot when it's very hot too...but, on the other hand, it's perfectly possible to grow in them for 12 months of the year, they are far cheaper to buy, they can be erected very quickly and the plastic lasts for at least 7 years (far longer if you're careful....). I grow tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, cucumbers, chillis (sometimes), melons, Basil and salad crops in mine. I overwinter some of my tenderer plants in there and I start a lot of vegetables off in there in early Spring. If your sister does buy one I would advise her to put doors in both ends. I have chicken wired over the bottom door of mine to keep creatures out but without it the thing would be at melting point in our hot weather. Don't bother with the watering systems they try and sell you and get the biggest one you can afford, or have room for. I bought mine from First Tunnels and found them really good, although that was over 15 years ago. I've replaced the plastic once in that time. Mine is 30ft X 12ft which I find about the right size although I have a greenhouse too.

Thanks for that 4P I will let my sister know ;D From what I understand she has a large garden about 250' long, she has chickens and pigs. She is in Bury St Edmunds, but I haven't visited yet, (She moves around quite alot) but seems settled where she is. She likes growing veg and I will certainly pass on your recommendation. Thanks

My lad was out on the garden earlier on today, harvesting the sugar snap peas (not one has found it's way as far as the kitchen!) and french beans (ditto)...he was poking about, 'desnailing' everything when he found lots of lovely baby pepinos on our three bushes cor....I'm dead excited mind you...we found a HYOODGE white slug sliming it's way towards the fern bed....I had to fetch OH to deal with it...it was as big as a big thing....ew..... It must've come in from next door as we've nemaslugged and haven't seen a single slug since March in the garden.....

Despite the fact that my veggie garden is SMOTHERED in weeds the harvesting is going pretty well - potatoes are really gorgeous, tomatoes, cucumbers by the barrowload, the peas are over but the runner eans and french purple beans are doing well, even though I have totally neglected them! : Best of all - we picked our first Sweetheart melon yesterday and it's scrumptious

Yup. Were doing potatoes, tomatoes, spring onions, red onions, beetroot, lettuce, spinach and courgettes (planed in pots). The carrots planted in the window box have really come on and we'll have some of them at the weekend.
I've sown chinese leaves, pak choi, carrots, spring onions, kale, french beans in the hope that we have an Indian summer.

A lot are splitting because of all this rain
