As suggested by my very good friend Sweetleaf, I am available (at certain times and for a very reasonable non NHS fee) to help you with all your cactus and succulent ills and queries etc.
Please post here from now on.

Oh good ! Right back to the mysterious fluff on my Rhipsalis, is there a chance it will spread to other specimens in the same propagator? And another question!.... How long will these cuttings remain in the prop, and how will I know they are ready to move on?

Without seeing your fluff it is hard to say..........
Lift the cuttings from time to time to see if they have rooted. New growth is always a pretty good indicator.
On GWD I mentioned that the very good new medium to root up your cacti (including the difficult ones) id Tesco Premium cat litter - just keep the cat out of the greenhouse.

It's probably good for lots of things - but not meat.

It's alright SL, it's quite nice really. Don't be frightened.
It wasn't as variable as I wanted but time was of the essence. It gets to about 75f which is lower than I want but the bit of sun we are getting now will take it to where I want it.
What dod you think of the snake one?

|
Post by sweetleaf on Feb 28, 2007 15:19:14 GMT 1
It does resemble a snake doesnt it? It was enough to convince the cat anyway! I dont think she`ll come near it any time soon...teehee! ;D The names are very difficult to spell without checking 10 times to make sure youve got it right, but the one I thought was most attractive was the Stapelia Leendertziae.........but then again I havent googled them yet, to see what I may have in store

Stapelia schinzii also has a magnificent brown and puple fringed flower but it is a bit whiffy. If you look carefully on the smaller stem, there shouldbe a tiny flower bud (unless it came off in the post).

I found it, it looks like a brown bristle ....very small, its still on, though your packing technique is very successful, Mick. Stapelia Leendertziae has a lot of root, I take it it doesnt need the propagator then? Can it move to the next stage or do I need to baby it a little?

Nope, if they have root you can pot them up and treat them as normal. No need for the prop. Don't overpot them though - only give them a pot big enough for their roots as is. You might even want to pot them together into a larger container like a seed tray. They will come on better that way as the watering is more even.
Don't water straight away though. Leave for a few days - see the GWD March comments (can you still access?)
