Dutchy I adore your soft sculptures - do you sell them?

I do, but they are rather big and not suitable for a home situation. They are what I call office material. Unfortunately I can not make new ones because of my health. ( hand can't take the pressure it takes to cut this material ) I now hang them in public spaces and wait and see what happens to them. Only one has been removed, so far so good.

Some of them look quite delicate so I'm quite surprised when you say they are big and unsuitable for homes! I understand what you mean about the pressure though, especially now you've said they are large pieces. Did you start off doing sculpture and then turn to painting or have you always painted?

You can tell I have started working again ;D Hardly on the internet any more. I consider myself a Painter Plocket. I do make work in other media but love the mixing of my colours and creating a new world in the flat. I am trained as a painter but went to sculpture from there and back. I love sculptures. I work for the town council as an art consultant. This means that I get to assist in acquisition of artwork for public spaces ( mostly sculptures) and I get to assist some of the artists in getting things working between them and the school-, street-, office users. Sometimes I have to get the builders to do things sometimes I have to get the artist to work faster etc etc.

Oh my! What a fascinating job! Sometimes I regret not going to art college (I turned down my place eventually) because of the opportunities it could have given me. Don't get me wrong I'm very happy with my life, but I can't help wondering how different it might have been.
So what sort of paints do you like using the best?

I start of poring paint so I have to use acrylics, or poison myself. By now I can achieve anything I want really. Only when I want a soft layering as a finish do I use oil. You could say I combine the effect of watercolour with the more solid acrylic/oil look.
You too have the talent. It does not take art school to get going but it helps as they constantly force you to question your work, not just the "image" but also the how and why of your material. And they sharpen your way of looking at things. Before anything an artist is eyes and ears (and other sensory organs, depending on their work of choice). Being in an Academy is like being in a pressure cooker. It is not pleasant but in the end it helped me to move on and deepen and develop my work to where I am now.

Mmm I'm still not sure I would have enjoyed Art College. It's very much a mood thing for me, especially nowdays - if I'm in the mood I paint but I really don't (and didn't) want to be painting when told. That's the disapline of it though.
I've never used oils but would love to have a play with them. One day maybe, but I really like water colours and gouache - I like the way the colours can be layered, thinned, removed... great stuff! I'm comfortable with them which helps, but I really should do more, and try to develop a bit. My landscapes are very weak so I should work more on them, rather than flowers which I'm more confident with. At least I'm painting again - that's the positive thing. I keep telling myself I should do at least one painting a fortnight, but haven't achieved that for a long time. ;D

Hey you contribute to the boards in other ways C3D - your glorious photographs and your wonderful stories - you have a way with words that I love, even if it doesn't fit into the art gallery.

OMG! This was the first time I looked in on the Art Gallery and it took a while to pick my jaw up off the keyboard. So many wonderful people who have been truly blessed with artistic talent! I have nothing to contribute to the Art Gallery other than my utmost admiration! ;D C3D That will do me just fine ;D I love the utmost admiration bit ;D Humble modest deep bow ( whether you meant my work or that of others ) The art thread could do with some poetry too or photography or..... plenty to choose from. Oh and could some one get me my avatar back. It went hay walk. Or perhaps it has already left for the holiday Dutchy

Oh Dutchy. Please know that I have *sincerely* the utmost admiration for your talents and the artistic talents of the others who have posted in the Art Gallery! There are no favourites with me. All are exquisite! Plocket, Plocket, Plocket ... You are too kind. The silly stories are mine. The photographs, for the most part, are those of my husband Mike.

Kind yes C3D but also honest ;D And the stories aren't silly - I usually prefer true stories from the heart rather than made up stories.

Just spotted this, wow how great are you lot then, so many style but every picture is wonderful! So many talented people, makes me feel very humble, I'm twiddling a cloth cap between my fingers and bowing as I type this. (a talent in itself I suppose)

These are SO good, I am really impressed - and envious I am going to have to do a good deal more practice before anyone sees any of my daubs!

I bet that isn't true DrBill, everyone is always so modest about their own work - why don't you post a selection so we can see please?
