OK...um. I love Egyptology and these are based on photographs from books. Scene from the golden throne (Tutankhamum's) mixed media this is the inner golden sarcophagus (Tutankhamun again) watercolour. Tutankhamum's funeral mask. couldn't get it out of the frame so it didn't photograph v well. sorry, acrylics Here are some cows (based on a photo) watercolour and here's one of my abstracts...lots of little designs shoved in a wooden frame..acrylic they didn't photograph v well...when I get a new scanner I'll try again. Got a couple of tree drawings that I actually quite like (shock horror) but they don't photograph v well so I'll have to wait until I can scan them. ;D

They're really beautiful Plocket, and so much detail - you have a real talent there. CPB yours are fantastic too - I love the local park and the tree trunks, it's like a photo! And Hitler's pictures are great, Sleepy - lthey remind me of the Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. They're fantastic, all of them.

Lovely paintings Plocket...do you work from photos like me? I take soooo long over a painting I'd find it impossible to work from 'life'!

Lovely paintings Plocket...do you work from photos like me? I take soooo long over a painting I'd find it impossible to work from 'life'! Thank you MrsB I usually work from photos Cheery, basically because I've usually got LP with me if we go out ;D They are my photos though and I've usually got the painting in mind as I take the shot. I can pretty much tell straight away whether I can paint it or not, whether it's a landscape or a flower. I prefer to paint from life though - the colours are better I always struggle with pink though, so don't paint pink flowers.

Why don't you give it a go Mick, if you've got a bit of spare time that is ;D
I really do believe in trying and keeping on practicing (although I don't always do it myself!!!) - I had a friend at school who couldn't draw stick-men but she wanted to do art. So she sat and tried and tried and eventually mastered it. She was always more technical than me and I thought her stuff was amazing. She ended up being a set designer at our local theatre, and then I lost touch with her.

Rowan talking about Hawthorn trees reminded me of this drawing I did of a tree in our local park... Lovely picture! The one I saw yesterday was more of a bush than a tree, probably because it was fighting for space with all the other wild plants.

The local wildlife park is hedged with Hawthorn and Blackthorn bushes..I really love it there...it's just a little strip of land that used to be the 'rough' area of the local municipal golf course...until the council sold most of the land to a property developer We kept a wildlife area tho because there are great crested newts (a protected species) in the pond there ;D
