We had two bullfinches today - male & female, first time we have seen them in the garden.
And I know he wasn't in our garden but out walking this morning there was a buzzard in a tree. We could see him quite clearly and were walking towards him when the farmers bird scarer went off! And so did he, beautiful thing.

I was just going to post the exact same thing Myrtle. OH tried to get a photo but it didn't come out very well. Don't think we've seen bullfinches before either.

We have a pheasant with a white ring of feathers round its neck just like that one Maggy. He usually pops round with another completely different looking pheasant - I didn't realise there were quite a few different sorts.

Read that Bullfinches like pecking buds off fruit trees - that's why they were looking so happy in our apple tree! Still, think there will be enough buds to share with 2 small bullfinches!

I hadnt noticed that jas; Ill be taking notice in future ;D we have loads of pheasants in the fields beside the road that leads onto our estate! but just before Christmas the guns come out and the poor things are slaughtered then it takes a few months before you notice them again mind I have noticed them pecking at the road further up on the dual carraigeway its a wonder they survive the traffic along there.

They haven't found our plum tree yet! They were by the fat feeders on the other side, on the other hand the blue tits and the wood pigeons have - cheekily looking into the kitchen window as they sit there!

Ah well, live and let live I guess. We usually end up with more apples than we know what to do with.

I think pheasants have the worst road sense of any bird unfortunately. They just amble into the road and because they are so heavy they don't take off very well.

Just watched Mr Blackbird wrestling to get a worm out of the ground. You'd not believe the tugging it took.

i thought we had pigeons nesting in our tree up the garden but this morning i went out and there was so much commotion out there, the crows were making so much noise, it looks like they have made a nest in that tree and the magpies were trying to raid there nest, , i didnt think they made nests in connifers as they wouldnt protect them as well as big trees, mind you a lot of trees have been felled around here to make way for shops and carparks , thats why i think they have moved in there,

Jess used to launch herself at any wildlife in the garden but she never got anything - it was all far to fast for her. She can't see anything now before it sees her.

We have a cat like that All the birds just carry on around her. She's nearly 2 now. We did find her last year sat in the dining room with a bird next to her - she had passed me in the kitchen without me noticing. We picked it up, kept her inside and put it back outside. It was ok and flew off after about 20mins.

That was a lucky little bird Myrtle. Jess used to love all the rabbits first thing in the morning - she would charge down the garden woofing and they would scatter to all corners - she didn't know which way to turn.

I'm getting lots of visits now from the tits, blackbirds and starlings. I've not seen the thrush at all since I came home from hols. I hope they come back again.

Today I was sitting outside when the Blackbird came to the bird table. He stuffed his mouth with as much as he could eat without swallowing it, then flew off to the tree/bushes in the disused factory opposite my house. I'm 100% sure there is a nest there with little baby blackbirds in it. Mr and Mrs visit several times a day now and there's still no sign of the Thrush.

Ducks - four of them last night!
We were sorting bits out for hubby for today and I saw a female mallard on the lawn, I then spotted the male. A bit later I looked out as I heard some noise and another two males were there, fighting whilst the other male was having his wicked way! Poppy was asleep in the conservatory! They came right up to the house and about 30mins later two went and then the other two.
Never seen them in the garden before but I hope they come back!

Goodness how unusual BM, hope they come back again. I've lived here for 20 years and never had them in the garden before LG. We do see them fly over and they have perched on the roof. We assume that they came from the golf course - we are in a close off a close and at the bottom there is a golf course. We only have a bird bath as well - wouldn't all fit in it!

LOL Im laughing at Poppy sleeping and all them ducks on the back lawn they must have know she was asleep. We have realised she is not the brightest - think she was at the back of the queue when brains were given out She tries to catch things but she runs at everything - the baby rat (or rats - not sure if it the same one twice!) she has caught must be quite dense as well!
