Oh that would be nice Biggy let me know - Iive 20 mins from Knutsford I watched a blackbird in my garden this morning - he has his patch and takes charge of the bird feeders - when he can balance on them He started to make that noise birds make as a warning cry when cats about I cudnt see any cats And I was sure he did that on purpose to keep the birds away from the feeders He was on the ground by the feeders very unconcered about cats, continuing to making his scary call, and proceeding to nibble on the nuts that had fallen to the ground Have I made history in bird behaviour

Goodness JW what a clever little blackbird you have there. I could sit and watch their antics for ages. I've noticed lately that only one thrush is coming to visit. I wonder if it's mr thrush and mrs thrush is busy nest building. When they both came together I could tell the difference in them but now that there's only one coming I don't know if it's the sam eone or if they're taking turns.

Maggy the only real difference I could see was that one was a bit bigger than the other. One would sit on the wall when the other was feeding and he/she would frighten off the blackbird or pigeons who tried to come into the garden at the same time. They would spend quite a bit of time in the garden and sit over on the roof of the disused factory when not ocming into my garden. All the neighbours got to know them and commented on them. Now that only one is coming, he/she is just eating and running, which makes me think one is in a nest.

Oh the blue tits are nesting in my box Biggs they are in and out I cant decide wether they are in the process of building or not !! the female is looking very fat though, they are busy picking the blossom off my winter cherry you can see it dropping thats the only way you notice them! its alright though it will all be dropping off anyday now. The blackbirds are both walking around the garden most of the day I hope they are eating all the slugs.

We went walking one night last year and came home with an injured crow - sadly, he didn't make it. I came home one night to find a rat in the waste bin in the lounge - hubby found him outside struggling, he had probably been poisoned, we put him out of his misery. And we resuced a bird from Poppy last year - she was sat in the dining room with the bird next to her, it was ok though and after realising he was still alive and ok, he flew off.

I remember that Jenny--from last year--I think you had a photograph of them-- When the birds have flown the nest do you clean the box out or do you just leave it for them for the following year? I remember once when we had Blue Tits nesting and they had flown the nest I 'looked;' in it and discovered a dead 'gosling' (is that the word I use?) it was flea/black flies ridden--I scrubbed the Box but the Bluetits never returned the following year. I often wonder what the correct thing is to do when a box has been used.

Funny you should mention this Biggy
There is a little pull out piece of wood at the bottom held with two screws for cleaning
So the other day I set about trying to get the piece of wood out and the whole thing came off the wall - it had jammed tight shut - so I dont know what is lurking in there
I think will get someone round to sort it out if nothing happens in the meantime

Brace yourself--It might be a dead young one--I got 'bitten' with tiny bites after I investigated my box so I think it must have been the little flies/fleas--they itched for ages-- Keep in touch and lets know what it is that is jammed in there--

OH the poor things!! my O.H. says they will clean it out themselves!! ours doesnt come apart ! but they nest ever year in it, last year was the first time I saw all the babies on my cherry tree they were soo tiny, but once they have fledged they go and you dont see them till they come back looking for food months later.
