If you havent got a lottie never mind! All talk about your veg patch counts ! Ill start the ball rolling shall I ? Im actually in posession of two lotties which are being transformed into a fruit garden and veg plot, the pond which was my special wish sprang a leak, so will now be adapted to a cranberry bog, always look on the bright side eh? Now looking for a large rigid container in which to create a new pond, (something will turn up! )

Hi Sweetleaf I bought 1 plant last year for the first time - we only had two sqashes from it. Probably because it wasn't in a big enough pot. This year I bought some seed to do - there going in the veg pacth not sure how many we are doing. - But I can probably spare some if you would like. How are the greenhouses going.?

The frame has been set on concrete kerbstone thingies all level and square, all that remains is to replace the glass, which Ill be cleaning today prior to refitting, several pieces are broken so I`ll need to order replacements, but that is only a minor inconvenience ! ;D ;D I found my saved BS seed this morning while sorting out the Kangaroo paw seeds for CPB, so I wont need any more but thanks for the offer.

Your welcome. - if you need any flower seeds let me know I've got more than I could ever sow and not enough space to plant them all. - Think I went a bit mad the other week when I went shopping. : Do you have to order the glass then, when I needed some for mine I just went down the glass and mirror shop with my measurements and they cut them there and then only about £3 per glass.

I dont have a car, so the best thing for me would be to ask my friend who is a glazier to pick the glass up for me when hes there, well if he will Other than that, I dont know where I can buy glass locally. OH is at work when the shops are open, so its a bit difficult.

Dont apologise I dont miss driving really, I dont even miss the bike any more, Im getting too old for the cold around the joints perhaps I used to drive a camper van (OH`s idea) it ran on methane and had a sticker in the rear windscreen that read "Beware!.... this vehicle runs on prune juice" ;D ;D Dont miss that either

I've got bags and bags and bags of manure that I have been collecting over winter from one of the local stables. Safe to put on yet?

What does it smell like? Sounds like a daft question but if it smells like ammonia its not ready.
On the other hand if you are digging it in to empty beds it should be ok when its still a bit underdone. Did you punch holes in the bags to allow the fluid out? It makes a good fertilizer by itslf, when it matures and is watered down ;D

Be aware that its going to be pretty sloppy and stinky then! I would empty them into a heap and cover them with a tarp, or similar, and wait until the smell/ sloppiness has settled down, a large heap will heat up and rot down much faster. You could add it in layers to your compost heap, and speed that up! Are you growing any squashes this year? A soil covered muck heap is a great start for them, and at the end of the season can be spread around the beds with safety. You could also shovel a load into the bottom of your bean trench, and bury it, its lovely stuff as long as theres not too much urine in it.

I sort of hoped that they would rot down in the bag. No?

Puncture the corner of each bag and strain off the liquid, that would be for the best, then you can make liquid manure feed from it . You have to water it down a fair bit. Then you can put it in a heap with a cover on so the rain doesnt leach out all the good stuff, and it will get very hot, when it cools down, mix it and cover it again, that should heat it for the second time, after that it should be safe to use.
