Today I plant up all the fruit bushes I bought from aldi which are currently soaking in a bucket of water. Ill plant them out properly on the lottie later in the week. The fruit beds are finished now and it will be a relief to move on to preparing the root beds, the spuds are chitting in the shed, and the bed for the broad beans is being warmed by a huge cloche which was made from the roof of my old plastic greenhouse. They Will be sown direct on the lottie on the weekend, at the end of the week Ill sow my runner beans, and keep them at home planting them out in the latter part of May, this worked very well for me last year as they got off to a very good start, and were tough enough to cope when the real summer heat kicked in. As an insurance policy Ill sow another bean in each planting hole with the plant, these will give a second flush of flowers later in the season, and extend the harvest almost into November if it works the way it did last year.

Got there at last on Saturday. Opened up all the manure bags and piled into a heap. I was surprised to find worms actually inside the bags. Clever how they untied the knots, climbed inside then reknotted them.
Too wet yet to dig the remaining bits but the scaffold boards to make raised beds arrive this week (free of charge!) so if I can persuade my son in law (builder) to help put them together next weekend I should be able to sow parsnips and broad beans.
Picked sprouting broccoli and spinach.

Yesterday I overdid it a bit, at the lottie, but I managed a fair bit of work. I planted two pear trees, and 9 fruit bushes, weeded the strawberry beds, and filled in the old pond which was completely empty. Dug the root bed, and pulled out a wheelbarrow full of couch, will dig again to find the rest, there will be more by experience! 5 out of six of the water butts are full, so I have lined the next one up to be filled one even has a tap made by the previous owner to attach a hose to for drip watering Oh and then I tidied the shed until it was pitch dark while waiting for OH to come and get me ... and I enjoyed watching the sun go down, with a cup of coffee.

I haven't got a lottie any more but I'm going to start sowing in the veggie garden this week I hope. Got a fair few chitted spuds ready and red onion sets that MUST go in asap. My veggie garden is in such a state as we're changing it all so I'm afraid the rotation (such as it is) is all to pot this year. Things have to go in when and where there's a space this year. I'm going to intersow with French Marigolds and Bush Nasturtiums though to try and confuse the beasties. I won't have a clue where everything is but at least it'll look purty!

Very pleased to see that a lot of the old unused plots have been taken over by newbies. And of course I feel very important when they ask my opinion!
