Should we all try to sow on the same day d'you think? Oh no. It's the end result that matters. And the gardeneners decision on when to sow is a factor of his.her skill. Plus that would give the South coast a 2 week head start!

OOh this will be fun! ;D
Who mentioned skill? What's that? In my case it will probably be more luck than judgement! And, I've just realised, I won't get any tips to beat hubby now.

I haven't had my seeds delivered yet though....... and I don't have a green house....... or a bed to plant sunflowers in atm : Craig grew one in a large pot a few years ago, with quite some success. As long as they get enough food, light and water, they will be OK. On GW once, didn't the person winning the sunflower competition, grow them in pots up the side of the house, I have forgotten now? I'm scared to put mine in the ground, the hens are eating everything I may try surrounding them with prickley twigs.

How's everyone's sunflower seedlings doing? I didn't plant mine until Easter - but they are poking their little heads through! Well some are, I check them & talk to them every night! Emseypop, yours are doing well considering you are battling with guinea pigs and the hens probably having a go at them! ;D It's nothing to do with us sending vibes & instructions out to them honest! ;D

I had one around 12' tall last year. Any tips then? ;D You need to plant it in a place where it will get plenty of sun. Kings Heath ideally, or New Zealand.

They are also grown commercially for their seeds here. Sleepy might think you were cheating though! ;D

I wonder if I could persuade our parish council to do something similar? Or I could send seeds home with every child from school! Wouldn't that be brilliant....ooh, Roan I can feel a new PTA initiative coming on.......
