Ive planted hanging basket tomatoes (Tumbling Tom Red), sweet pepper, spring onion, courgette and carrots, a hybrid you can grow in pots, all from seed, I cheated with the leeks and bought them from the G.C. they look like blades of grass. None of the seeds have shown their heads yet, I'm guessing its too early, they are outside in a grow house, unheated. Does anyone know how long it might be before they start to germinate (hopefully)? (They've been planted just over a week most of them).

Hi Jad, mine are outside in a plastic growhouse and I only planted them last Sunday - I keep looking more in hope than expectation yet though!. Peppers, I can't remember which ones off the top of my head, sorry (I'll look over the weekend for you), carrots - still in the packet!
Tomatoes - I am growing four varieties. Sungold, Principe Borghese, Russian Black & Nectar, I've put them on emsey's 'Tom, Dick or Harry' thread. Alicat and Karen are growing hanging basket toms I think.

Hi bogmyrtle as soon as any of mine raise their heads I'll let you know. We've already prepared two borders in our garden for them to be planted out, I've had to sacrifice my flower bed this year but it will be worth it if the vegetables are successful. I've grown courgettes and peppers in the past but I had a greenhouse with a heater, this type of growing is new to me.

Just popped in to update my seed trial. One of my hybrid carrots has germinated I am so pleased I was starting to worry as some of them, especially the courgettes, should have been up now.

Courgette usually take about 1-2 weeks to germinate Tulip, they do grow like triffids 'tho once they've germinated.

That's great Tulip. I sowed some parsnips the same time(ish) as Maggy, and gave up on them, put them in the compost, a few days later Maggy posted that they'd germinated So it pays to hang fire I sowed sweet peas 2 weeks ago-nothing yet, and lots of stuff the weekend-nothing yet.

If you put them on the Conservatory windowledge till they germinated and then pop them back outside Jen! but dont give up they will come eventually.

are your night scented stock inside or out Bogmyrtle? I took a chance and sowed where I want it to flower for a change. Since then it's done nothing but rain.

Thanks for your replies everyone, I decided to take Maggy's advice and move them into the conservatory, especially as the weather is going to get colder, some of us are going to get snow I think. Whilst I was moving them I noticed that one of my courgettes is just starting to show through, some other carrot seeds are through and one of my sweet peppers is showing through, they should come on leaps and bounds now in the conservatory. When they all get stronger I will move them back into the growhouse outside. BM you said earlier that you have a fleece on your growhouse, do you cover the whole of the growhouse or cover the seeds over inside with it? Bye for now.

It's the same as the plastic cover Tulip but made from fleece, it came with it but I'm sure you could probably get them separately. It came from here www.garden4less.co.uk/mini-greenhouse.asp

I sowed Comos too last year in the garden - loads of them but only a couple got to the point of flowering, this year I have sown them in modules and today some are poking there heads up. BM I have had more luck with veg sown straight into the ground. but it's still very hit and miss.

:clappingBM thanks for the link, I looked at it, I think my growhouse is the wrong size for that one but Im sure I can get the right size. At the moment the seeds are indoors, I think I will leave them there until the weather gets a little warmer, thank you for your help.

Hello everyone, just a quick update on my veg seeds, some more courgettes have appeared and more carrots and spring onions, Im still waiting on my tomatoes and sweet peppers. My tomatoes, peppers and chillies haven't done anything yet either Tulip. I've brought the toms into the conservatory (thought it was too cold in the GH for them at night) but still no sign. Glad that your others have come through though.

The first of my tomatoes have shown their heads (tumbling tom red), only waiting for the sweet pepper to come through now. Courgettes are doing nicely, each day another one (or two) show their heads. Still indoors, havent put them outside yet. How are yours doing BM? Bye for now
