Biggles don't look at the plot behind where i have been digging and the planks of wood as that is someone elses plot. (john aka Blacky ) but our plot is roughly 55ft long by 25ft so it is still big Hang on I'll see if I have a photo of our plot. This is the best photo I have at the moment of nearly all of our plot. And this is a different angle of the area i am concentrating on.

Spent a good few hours down the plot today and managed to finish off the path leading to and past the shed. I'm really bushed now and really don't feel like cooking tea. I'll try and pop back on later to post pictures. - that's if I don't fall asleep again. : ;D Ali. x

It is looking fantastic Ali, well done. I can picture you sitting there with your cuppa in the summer watching over your plot and everything you have growing!
I now know who to contact if I need a path laying!

Feb / March 2009. Hi all Sorry I haven't updated for a few weeks, kids have been ill and Rob came down with strep throat in the half term holiday. Not much has changed really so no photo's yet. Hoping to take some this weekend. The kids have made a start at painting the shed ( dark brown ) while Rob put up the bench in the shed and I dug out a Bean trench – ( 11ft long x 2ft wide x 2 spades deep ) which I have filled with Kitchen waste, shredded newspaper and manure. In a few weeks I will top off with homemade compost. The best news though is that the council have agreed to deliver 2 tons of Topsoil for the dip in the middle where we only have clay. I was wondering how we would get round this problem without it costing a fortune. The Topsoil arrives on the 20th of this month so I have my work cut out to get rid of the weeds before then. My Plan of Action is. Dig out as many weeds as possible – mainly docks. Weedkill the remainder then dig them in, without bringing up too much clay. Sprinkle claybreaker over. Add Manure then topsoil. Finally add homemade compost from the garden and mix in with manure and topsoil. - Phew. Just to even things out I had some not so good news today. As mentioned before we do have Japenese Knotweed the other side of the fence. and a plot holder told me today that there is Marestail on some parts of the allotment site. I don't know yet if it's on ours. - oh joy of joys – I really hope it isn't. Finishing on good news, Rob has the day off tomorrow so we are spending our time on the lottie.

well ali, your making me feel tired just reading your thread, what a lot of work you've got to do,but it will all be worth it when you see the end result, i'm glad i'v only got my small garden now, many many years ago we had a lottie and we used to go up there with all the kids in tow,[would they moan] and we loved it but now we're to old for that, we leave it to the young uns,

I'm tired re-reading it, it's a good tired though When I finally get down there I don't want to leave but have too of course, then i get to this time of night and can't wait for tomorrow. I'm really struggling to fit everything in, kids, housework etc. but I can't give it up - it's like having a new lease of life and the peace and quiet is brill. My veg planner is coming together too and i can't wait to see veggies growing. Sleepy I took the camera today but ran out of time to take pictures promise I will take some this weekend.

Great news about the topsoil Ali You'll be able to use the space much easier once its level. I hope they send you some good stuff! I'll do some mini trenches the w/e my beans will have to go in the hens area, so they'll backfill faster than I can dig. Are you starting your beans off in pots?

I can't understand this I popped in and replied to you Em the day you posted. But my post isn't here Basically I said - The topsoil is great news and I hope It doesn't come with any nasties. Yes i will be starting them off in pots - although the last 2 years I have been very unlucky and not done very well at all. - Keeping my fingers crossed for this year. Btw. - Have you and Deb's still got your allotment ? - Sorry If I haven't been keeping up.

Hi all We had a great day on Friday, just Rob and I down the lottie, although Rob was feeling a little worst for ware after his night out on a works business do. ;D I think you can safely say we did more pottering than making an impression. Job's were done though and I found out we have marestail on our plot - or is it Horsetail, marsh tail, feild tail, - I have no idea Looking it up in the book they all look very similar. Anyway after finding out what the roots look like I got digging / hand weeding and learn't the difference between Marestail and couch grass. - well chuffed. Saturday was spent at home due, to the fact the washing machine packed up, so Rob stripped it down to findout why - after 4 hours it was decided we needed a new one. - off shopping we went. : Sunday - It's raining so no lottieing - But we did manage to bag up the soil from one raised bed in the garden and remove said bed to take down to the lottie. - Meg and I have also sown some seeds - veg and flower's Yipeeeeeee....

Finally add homemade compost from the garden and mix in with manure and topsoil. - Phew. When you say Weedkill the remainder of weeds--Just a thought Why not spray the Perennial weeds with Tumble Weedkiller - --it just kills the weeds but doesn't affect the soil-so you can add Manure and then your Top soil.

Hi Bigg's that was my plan - i've got some round up which is the same, but i've had to wait for the water to be turned back on by the council. In the meantime I have been hand weeding which to be honest has the best effect on Marestail and couch grass. Pictures coming.

Just a couple of pictures from this weekend, Rob has been poorly again so we couldn't spend as much time on the lottie as He/ we would have liked. For the first time my Dad came over to see the lottie. And as best he could he got stuck in to helping us out. ;D Rob and Dad putting the raised bed back together. Rob managed to get this R/bed in the ground and ready before he ran out of energy. Dad sitting down doing some weeding, his back isn't great now but he still loves to help out. Haven't got any photo's but the kids had a great time pond dipping and checking out the pondlife. Back to it tomorrow weather permitting. Friday is our deadline and the topsoil arrives.
