These two have been causing me problems for the last few days! No not bad trouble, just staying still until I get the camera ready. It's still not the shot I wanted, but hey I'm not moaning. First time they were on top of the feeding station, one either side both looking at me in perfect symmetry, but flew off, when a blackbird sent out a warning call. Cat, probably. They do like posing, though! Keith

Nice picture Keith!
Do you use a zoom lens to get them close up or are you taking it through a window?

Nice picture Keith! Do you use a zoom lens to get them close up or are you taking it through a window? Taken through our kitchen window, on a 200mm zoom setting. The last time I tried, it was raining and the autofocus, focused on the rain droplets on the window! While switching over to manual focus, they flew off, to sit on the garage behind, as if to say, you can't get me! Keith Taken through this window.

Now I see! ;D
You sit all cosy in the warm watching them through the window whilst they are freezing their feathers off! ;D
I understand about the rain drops, that is one of the problems with Auto Focus, it finds an object and focuses on it, but not necessarily the one we want. It would have been a nice photo of a raindrop though! ;D

One day, I will finish off the pond with waterfall and get rid of the net and replace it with the pond wiring system (that's in the garage still in it's packaging!!) to guard against herons, that I have been told cruise overhead, by a neighbour of ours. Cats can be a problem too with their paws that just love to dip in and grab whatever moves!

We also have the white heron or kōtuku (Egretta alba modesta) which is very rare, there being only 100 - 120 known to be in New Zealand although they are quite common elsewhere.

Wonderful photograph Keith. By the time I've fetched the camera to take photographs of the birds in our garden, they've flown

That's a cracking picture Keith. I have a pair getting all twitterpated in the garden too - they sit on smallest's swing crossbar a lot. They are very devoted aren't they? My two are never far apart. I like to see them in the garden - very pretty birds I think.

Bill Oddie described their cooing to sound like they were saying "I don't know, I don't know" - I'm sure you'll agree when you next hear them. ;D You (or should I say Bill) might be right there, The witch. Keith

It's awful though! I was screaming so much I had to be removed from the cinema the first time I saw it (age 4) and I still can't bear it....I never watch Lassie fims etc either - always howl like a baby. You should have seen me in the first 3 minutes of The Lion King. in the Circle of Life bit - sobbing like a total wally within seconds. My family thought it was hilarious.....I am terrible :

Keith I didn't like the ending in Kes, either!

I wonder if it's the doves in next door's Horse Chestnut that are coming down to nibble on my Hyacinths? But it can't be - butter wouldn't melt judging from that photo.

Keith I have a book at home that my brother's girlfriend at the time gave to me about Bambi, and it has beautiful drawings in, but I still cry when I see the one of Bambi after his Mum is shot. I won't go into detail but it is sad.

I always wondered about a dovecote myself, but if it got full, wouldn't it get a bit noisy? Wouldn't mind it full of collared doves though! Can you imagine! I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, then a youngster or hybrid, oh I really don't know!
