HOT NEWS: Percy has flown home! The owners have just this minute rung me to let me know. They said he was very hungry still but is fit and well. They couldn't understand why he arrived at ours because it was way off the course of the race, but are thrilled to have him back because he's won them a fair bit of money in the past. Anyway they thanked me for looking after him and I'm just chuffed that they let me know he's safe!

Finally got the swifts, house martins and swallows here at the weekend! After being dived bombed by that swallow in the gents at Rutland Water, last week, couldn't work out why we had none here, yet! Surely they would visit St Neots before Rutland, wouldn't they? Oh how I love seeing them flitting about, catching flies etc. Keith

I've just watched a baby blackbird bathing in the waterbowl in the garden, and a little bluetit splishing about in my water garden (while standing on the pebbles - he wasn't teaching himself to swim!), AND a little Holly Blue Butterfly flitting about in the sunshine.

We’ve just spent nearly 10 minutes watching a family of Coal Tits. We think they are coal tits – they looked easily as small as Blue Tits but without any blue on them – these were greyer and browny-yellow on their tummies. There were two weedy looking adults, and two little fat fledglings and the first spot was when the flitted into the garden to land on the garden chairs. One of the parents kept flitting from the feeders to the fledgling to feed it, and then the other two birds arrived. This second fledgling tried to land on the dome of the birdfeeder but missed so he rested on our hanging basket of rosemary, sorted himself out, and then returned to land on the bathing bowl. The second parent kept feeding him, and eventually he plucked up the courage to flit onto the actual food feeder. The first fledgling in the meantime decided to try and fly to the feeder, but the wind seemed to bother him a bit and he ended up on the garden wall being slightly buffeted by the weather! Eventually he too tried to land on the bird feeder, but he too had to divert to the hanging basket of rosemary, and the parent with him kept fetching food to keep him fed. Eventually they flew off towards the woodland, possibly because the wind had picked up and the feeders were blowing about in a rather alarming fashion!

Hi The witch. No. The pretty white-tailed deer was about a mile and a half away from our yard. She might well be here tomorrow though. Ya never know around here.
