That's fantastic Keith...wow! Do you think some of them are secret members of AF and read your laments about the lack of birds? OOH, I wonder, maybe they are or know someone who is!! Come on own up, who is it? The other thing is, they were not camera shy at all. They knew I was at the kitchen window, but just carried on doing what they were doing. I even picked up little Stephen to have a look and they just looked up, then carried on. Strange thing as well. When we came here last April there were two empty seed feeders on the big tree out the front. I decided to put our station, somewhere where we could actually see it. Only starlings came. Get this, my wife told me to move the tall seed feeder onto the tree where we found the old ones. Hey presto, the seed has been going down. But my station is not far away, didn't think I would have much of a problem. Never had before, maybe the birds here are different! Look the same, though! Keith

OH rang this morning while on his way to work, to tell us that there was a stag trotting up the road. He said it didn't seem preturbed by the traffic (not that there's a lot at 7.30am) and it was almost as if it were a route the stag regularly used LP's comment was "Oh, but did you see any rabbits?"!!!!! For LP - The witch they are FAB! LP will love them - thank you very much!

The blackbirds are loving the bit of rain we've had this morning, and are bouncing around the garden picking them out.
Over the weekend LP and I watched a baby blackbird tentatively hop along our garden wall while he watched his parents feeding. He then flopped down into one of our holly bushes and obviously had a bit of difficulty getting out because the poor bush was lashing about a bit. Eventually he found a comfortable perch and proceeded to feast on berries, and seemed quite unpreterbed by his inelegant landing!
We also watched one of the robins perch on the side of the water garden to drink, then he seemed to eye up the tadpoles. Perhaps he's practicing to be a heron!
And I put out a shallow bowl of water for the blackbirds, after seeing Madon's lovely photos, and sure enough they are already using it to drink from and bathe in!

C3D that is a beautiful picture! I love the colours and the textural contrasts. It would make a lovely print....an etching or something.. I always feel very sorry for the Fox in this country - even though I've lost a couple of my chickens to him on occasion, that's my fault for not making my garden fox proof I think. They are very beautuful animals.

That's another gobsmacker of a photo, C3D - a right gulper!! I don't think it's possible to get it any better than that, I could sit and look at it for ages. And he's so well camouflaged but even so his colour's been picked out from the leaves, lovely! I'll shut up now.

We rarely see them here but when we lived Dahn Saff there was a family that lived in the railway cut at the end of the garden, and they would rifle through the bins too. I much prefer country foxes

Thanks all. I'll try to find more non-bird pics. Mike's photo files are not in any kind of order and I need to go through 20 + folders and find something postable. Birds, insects, all kinds of animals are in our computer. Ewww. That didn't sound good! LOL!

Hi Sweetleaf. Copy all you want. The photographs are here to share! So happy tho think that one thought enough to be saved by someone else!!! Foxes are more closely related to dogs than cats. I have had two that were captive bred as patients. Stunning animals!!!

Honestly C3D, the all the photos you've posted are some of the best I've ever seen, but the two of the foxes make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck, really. No werewolf gags thanks.

Oh WOW! That's even better - how absolutely beautiful he/she is! Why/HOW do people shoot them or enjoy ripping them to bits with dogs? It makes me feel sick to even think about it. How amazingly fortunate your OH is to be able to see a fox so completely relaxed like that - a very rare opportunity. Thanks C3d - that genuinely has made my day!

I've just been watching a beautiful Great Tit flitting about the garden - first of all he had a good rummage through Primrose Star, probably for greenfly, and then performed incredible acrobatics on my pyracantha while getting the berries.
And some pigeons are nesting nearby - they keep pausing on the garden wall with nest materials in their beaks.

Went back to Oakham yesterday and ended up taking the dog to Rutland Water for a picnic. While we were there, I saw my first swallow this year. Where do you ask? Youngest son and I went to the toilets there and while we were doing the deed, we got dived bomb by the bird!! Couldn't believe it when I looked up to the rafters and realised it was a swallow. I have occasionally seen the odd sparrow in there, but a swallow?!! Eldest son had to go in, as he didn't believe us. He then got swooped on as well!! Couldn't see any sign of nest building, but then again, didn't have a ladder to get to some of the places!! Keith

We had goldfinches in the garden yesterday for the first time this year. We've seen them darting about but they don't usually visit us.
And OH nearly mowed a frog on Saturday. We don't usually get frogs in the garden either but we made sure he was well out of the mower before OH carried on.
And finally we've been visited by a homing pigeon. He arrived yesterday while I was pottering about in the garden, and had a bath in the water feature. I put down a bit of food for him and was able to make a note of the tag numbers and the phone number of the owner, but unfortunately only the last part of the phone number was on the tag. So I contacted the Welsh Homing Pigeon Union who have been in touch with me and the owner, who wants the bird back. I've tried to do as the suggest which is throw a towel over the bird, but it's not having it! Percy is currently on the extension roof watching proceedings and I'm waiting to hear again from the owner.
