I looked at the pond this morning and found that the frogs had spawned, there's loads of it! The spawn's the sparkly bits in the photo, and you see some under the water too. Anyone else had any yet?

Nope, not a sign in my ponds - at home or at school yet. I suppose you are bound to be earlier though - living on the south coast. It's a lovely first sign of Spring isn't it?

It really is. The frogs are croaking for all their worth in their couples(or threesomes, foursomes etc ) and it's so atmospheric first thing in the morning and at night. I think there's a load more to come. There'll be more spawn than pond soon.

I haven't checked yet, but although I have seen some activity, I haven't seen a lot. I'm hoping it is still to come.

I'm leaving it well alone this year - last year I transferred some of the spawn into a fish tank, to make sure some survived. Bad move - a few months later I was chasing the tadpoles all around the tank to put them back again! We don't have any fish any more to eat the tadpoles so I'll just let nature do its stuff. There have always been frogs and newts in our little pond, even when we had the fish so I have no idea what I was playing at.

They seem to be getting on without any help from you Debbie! Eeh, it's an amazing process I think...

Goodness that's early! I hope it survives the frosts because froggies only spawn once a year don't they?
I don't know whether we'll get any naturally or not because I don't yet know whether the frogs can get to the water - they've got jump from pot to pot to get to it. If not I'll get some from one of mum's ponds.

I bet it was good for the kids to have a good view of the whole process, wasn't it! Maybe thats why you did it?

It was all already going on in there when we moved here, but the kids are fascinated all the same. My ten year old daughter cringes a bit at the word 'mating' though. ;D

Has she seen the Book Mummy laid an egg I don't think so - what's that about then? ;D This is just a bit of a taster from the book. I bought it for 10p from the library, thought Holly would like it as I was expecting Louis at the time, never realized how graphic it was I haven't showed it to her yet, but I will one day......If you get your magnifying glass out, you can see some thrilling moments!!! The karma-sutra in crayon. With pace hoppers and beech balls no less!

Craig did when he was 10 and hated it, as most of the others giggled through it or made silly comments!! I won't repeat what one boy said and the teacher just ignored him, so he carried on!! Goes back to Maggyd's thread, lack of discipline or maybe even too young to teach this subject. I remember him coming home and saying what a waste of time it was, as only him and two others (one boy and one girl) tried to listen to what the lady teacher had to say. Keith

Keith I know my son bought a letter back from school a few months ago informing us that he was going to have sex lessons - it was either the end of Year 5 or beginning of Year 6. He wanted absolutely nothing to do with it as if it was the devil's work and told me he wasn't going, which he had to. He hasn't said anything else about it come to think of it. I'll ask him.....I think...

My daughter's fascinated by human biology and has asked questions for years about why this does that and how that works, to the point that sometimes I have to look it up myself! ;D But the thought of anything mating, and even snogging on TV, and she starts shrinking away.....

Our pond's got walls raised up from the ground but it doesn't seem to stop them, and there are pots galore all around it...hope you do get some Plocket. I agree with The witch too, if the route's too difficult - but maybe if the pots are always in the same spot they'll devise a route to get there and back again?

I have frog spawn now, the orgy was last weekend, I have around 6-7 clumps of spawn in the pond, and the parents have disappeared as usual. : I had to import spawn last year but this year with the ponds sides being lower, the conditions were right for spawning and there was a two day party in my pond! Thanks to all those who advised me about my pond....it worked ! ;D

Great news! ;D I think we've still got some goings-on going on in our pond though, despite all the spawn. They're having too good a time I think!

The trickling of the fountain into our pond's creating a milky foam over the water - it must still all be going on in there!!!
Yours sound a hedonistic bunch too Mick - maybe they're having to good a time to bother with all that spawning business. ;D
