That's the problem - the last bits with the broccoli and last years spinach. Not enormous but still takes up a tidy space. I dug a smallish area with a fork on Saturday and it was hard work. Just got to grit me teeth and get on with it!

Ooh, you LUCKY thing....how many bags of chippings?? Your OH may disappear at the drop of a hat but he does bring back the goodies doesn't he? Won't they look nice on your paths? And it does occur to me somewhere in the back of my "stuffed with trivia rubbish" head that slugs don't like pine needles - too acid, so it may have a good knock on effect (but I may be wrong.....).

Im not sure how many bags 4P but it does sound like a lot....hope it is, and then I can share the bounty with my neighbours on the lottie. ;D OH said the man was having trouble getting rid, hence its almost composted state. I wish I could share the lovely smell it gives off, too it really is rather pleasant.

OH thought I would want to stop at one bag he actually wondered if I would even want that! I shall have to write a list of headings and sit and discuss them all with him again! I wonder if he actually listens half the time. ;D I cant wait to go and cover that plastic up and walk on that stuff, its yummy

I used up the whole bag on just three short paths, they look and smell great, but I need at least two more now just to finish what I started! I am pleased with the days work, so have shown it to OH, He agrees it is a major improvement so hopefully he`ll be motivated to fetch the rest !

I have spoken with the gentleman personally as he came round to see OH he says he will deliver the chippings himself direct to the lottie on a flat bed lorry!

SL, having been watching this Big Dig on LSGardens, wonder if I could ask something, probably silly? What do you have in your shed? What I am getting at is, do you have two sets of tools, one for home and one for lottie? If you have two sets are they the same or do you have a better set? Where is the better stuff home or lottie? Excuse the silliness, OH made the comment as they were doing a bit on sheds and I said I don't know, maybe I should ask you!! If you have already said this somewhere else, sorry for asking again!! Well it is nearly midnight and we should have gone to bed by now, watched QuestionTime as usual. And as usual questions on Iraq!!!! Oh and OH stayed awake tonight!! Like I said, excuse the silly question(s)! Keith

Not daft at all Keith I keep two sets of tools at the lottie and a third (the best) at home! The lottie ones consist of a spade fork and hoe I bought from Tesco at the end of last season, not bad tools .......£2.50 each, and a set that was left in the shed for me by the previous holder, these are very heavy and need new grips, I keep both, sets because I can but hope that someone will come and help(yeah right) All my expensive, stainless steel tools remain at home, they are lighter sharper and more comfortable to use but I couldnt bear to lose them, so they dont get left there, although they have visited the plot.

Thanks SL. I did wonder, especailly after watching the Big Dig. I never saw it before, when it was on the BBC. Some of the tools they have look like they are fairly new, while others look like they have come out of the ark!! We are recording it at the weekend, then watching it when we can, so last weekend was when they did their bit on sheds. Do you have to buy two of most things, one for home one for lottie, or do you take some things with you each time? Some of these 'sheds' look like home from home and one guy says he would rather be in his shed than in his flat at home!! Thanks again. Keith

I have been a gardener for a long time Keith I already had two of most things at home, but some things are too good to lose so when I saw the tools in tescos I thought of them as disposable, if they are nicked I havent lost too much.
My shed now has shelving, a table, an old file cabinet I store the coffee sugar and Tbags in, Towel rail washing paraphernalia and stuff, comfy cushioned chair. I cant have a stove, Ive been warned that if vandals do break in, gas canisters are a bad thing to keep in there. I take a flask of boiling water and make drinks as I go.I love my shed though, and enjoy my breaks, thinking about painting the inside of the shed a light colour, when the rest of the work calms down a bit. ;D

Not after a days digging Madon, nothing but painkillers and a hot bath does that..... I do love my shed though, I threaten to move in there, sometimes (and I would if I had a kettle.)
