Right obviously this is the view out of the shed door looking up the plot, the first bed you can see is the flower bed, which has been planted with allsorts of plants which were excess from my gardens at home, Irises, sedums, Hardy geraniums, Asiatic lilies, the dreaded Crocosmia. And in the gaps between them Ive sown Bronze fennel Cornflowers and Poppies. Hopefully it will become a riot of colour and be a draw to all the good guys of the insect world

I know. I gave a planter to each of my boys two summers ago and then took them to the seed section of the garden centre and said take your pick. Big one chose sunflowers, littlun chose beetroot and poached egg plant!!!! Good combination, eh! They both did really well, though. Biggun grew his 6ft sunflower to 8ft and we all had great fun eating the beetroot!!

It looks fantastic Sweetie! No wonder your back hurts....you've obviously been working incredibly hard. I know now why you didn't get asked onto the committee - they're all frightened of you! Can't wait to see it all green and leafy.

I do envy lottie owners - all that wonderful fresh home grown fruit and veg to eat and freeze for over winter use. But I don't envy all the obvious hard work a lottie needs.

I do envy lottie owners - all that wonderful fresh home grown fruit and veg to eat and freeze for over winter use. But I don't envy all the obvious hard work a lottie needs. I am a little like that, but I nearly had one when we lived in Oakham. It was only 5 minutes walk away, but I wanted to get our garden sorted first. I was getting there when we had to move! Don't know where the nearest ones are here, i suppose I could ask around. SL, who do you have to contact regarding getting one? Keith

Sweetie it looks brilliant - no wonder your back aches. As for free bark chippings You could try the parks or the council ( highways, where they chop down trees that risk falling on to roads )it might not be free but would be cheaper than buying it in bags.

Apparently there are no funds for chippings deliveries to allotments from the council, or Highways so Ive gotten in touch again with a company Plotty told me about last year, I spoke to a very nice lady who assured me that I was at the top of the list when the company works in our area ...Brilliant. ;D
