I have two very, very large plastic plant pots, each holds one of those really huge bags of compost. Over the last few summers I have grown, successfully, broad beans, runners beans and peas in them. Only one variety to a pot though.

They sound excellent The witch - I have to use small pots and managed to get hold of some plastic florists pots from Tescos. They aren't brilliantly strong but at least they were free!!! ;D

I've grown potatoes, peas, runner beans (dwarf) and carrots in some 20" pots, an old water tank and old putty buckets ;D Soon we'll have a grown up veg patch...but I'll still grow salad leaves in pots on the patio etc...

Bob Flowerdew uses old tyres for growing spuds - adding when the time is right another tyre and more compost like earthing them up. ;D

I grow all my veg at the lottie... the only time they are in containers is when Im growing them on, unless you count toms and cuc`s in the GH. ;D Although my Carrots went in an old tank at the lottie to confuse the flies! I did try eggplant, but that was a bust

I'm thinking of doing spinach in a container this year simply so it can be well watered and not go to seed.
I grow spinach beet on the allotment but it is rather coarser.

I've heard that spinach isn't good for us In what way The witch? Didnt do popeye any harm ;D I saw program on the TV a few years ago, which discussed that although spinach is full of iron it doesn't release it when as it passes through us, and that it might in fact, take iron from the body. After doing a quick search I found an article that mentions this, but it would seem that there are lots of other benefits from eating spinach - perhaps I ought to grow some too. ;D www.theregister.co.uk/2006/08/18/the_odd_body_spinach/On the other hand, this link says it's not good for children because it contains too much oxalic acid.

I don't really like spinach all that much so don't think I'll be growing it.
My first Daikon has germinated though - in a container - and I'm thrilled!!!

I'll have to watch them with the baby apple and pear trees too, as they'll take the fruit off those. Good luck with your water melon, i've tried honeydew melons a couple of times but never got past the seedling stage-too darn cold. How old is your little one?

I grow my toms in pots every year (no good the last 2 due to the wet summers, but prior to that great). I buy a gro-bag and empty it into a pot. I tried peppers & dwarf beans in pots last year but didn't do any good - trying again this year. Chillies - haven't grown them for years but trying again - from seed and they are very slow!

Here are my Gardeners Delight in their containers. I never grow them in anything else and they live outside on the windowledge. I grow them from seed. I've also got Courgette, Parsnip, Peppers and Chillies all from seed and doing well. I just don't have room to put them in the ground so it's necessary for me to grow them in containers. Parsnip in the pots, carrots, shallots and red onions in the plot. Also sowed some beetroot in there but no luck yet.
