Ive lost my lovely Pyracantha full of berries and also my Lavatera due to the bad gales. Has anyone else lost anything Oh no, that's a shame... I don't think there's much that's damaged in my garden by the gales. That may be because I did such a lot of damage in the Autumn when I cut everything down though..... You'll have to look at the gaps as a brilliant opportunity to buy new shrubs instead Karen...

If not both have the ability to come again from low down, if the break is treated properly and sealed, even better.

4P SL, the Pyracantha has been severed very low down by next doors fence, im going to make her pay for it i had it for 13 years, the lavatera has lost a lower branch and a main middle branch, ive taken all the damaged parts away and im hoping i can manage to salvage them but if not i will find something to replace them.
Time to get the Arbrex out

That's a shame, Karen - hopefully the Lavatera will recover won't it? And hopefully the Pyracantha will too, but to lose 13 years growth, what rotten luck. My Torbay palm is still deciding whether to survive or not - it got rocked over to leaning at an angle so I dug it up and planted it more firmly elsewhere. It's not looking great but I'm still hoping it'll get over it. :

I think that some of the plants that I am over wintering in the greenhouse have got gray mold. Is this terminal???

Well, it's not great but it's not necessarily a death sentence! I would pull out the affected parts, have a bit of a snip and trim and try and increase the ventilation as much as possible. Depending on the type of plants affected and the weather it might be a good idea to get them outside for a while when you can, especially if there is a bit of sunshine.

I've just had a look around the garden and seen that my Ceanothus has fallen over, and needs a really big stake to keep it upright. I'm quite devastated at this, as it's right against our back wall, has been flourishing ever since we got it as a spindly bargain in B&Q and is starting to provide us with some privacy in that area. Does anyone know if Ceanothus plants are prone to doing this? Getting top heavy and then going over? It's just me but I can't help suspecting some sort of foul play, be it the fourlegged or the two legged kind, but I would be really happy to find out that it's quite common for them to fall over.

We staked the Ceanothus yesterday with an enormous post and it looks very happy. If our local burglar decides to leap over the wall on to my Ceanothus, if it was indeed somebody coming over the wall that did it, he won't have such a soft landing this time! I'm not paranoid, we have a lot of burglaries going on in our area right now and our neighbour's shed was burgled by somebody coming in via the back garden, we won't make it easy for them.

I've had to bring my seedlings in from the cold GH as it was soooo cold on Friday night...I'm glad I did, because last night was even COLDER! I had a big candle in a pot of sand burning in there all night...it might have just kept the edge off... My seedlings seem OK....time will tell.

It'd be interesting to see how much that does keep the temperature up, Cheery - I can't think of a way to measure it but you're a scientist.......

Don't give up hope yet, the plants may surprise you. Quite often it's prolonged cold that kills, a small spell may just knock them back. Like 4P said, what else was in there? Keith

Keith Mint is pretty robust anyway - mine is on the patio and is still in leaf.
