Surely Bat Plants are for the conservatory The witch? Ive never heard of them being sold for the garden before According to T & M two varieties are hardy. i quite fancy the white one....the black one would get lost amongst the ferns (see...I already know where I'd plant one!)

Weird the things you think of when you are sitting in a hospital A & E department, waiting to have your son's name called. It looked a bit naff and so cut it off a bit at the top, but feels solid further down, so hopefully everything is OK. Gave it a good feed, weeded around it and mulched it too. It is a baby one afterall, so always worried about it being big enough to survive the winter. Some sites I found, said the first winter it should be taken inside, but it was wrapped up by then, so thought I would chance it!!

It says that they can be sown any time of year on my T&M packet Keith. As long as you have a heated propagator for germinating them and somewhere warm for the plants to overwinter ;D Mine won't be going outside at all this year I don't think...unless we have a really hot summer (in which case the conservatory turns into an oven!)
The ones I bought were T&M Musa mixed species

It's very tempting isn't it Keith ;D I keep wanting to take a peek at my musa...but I'm hanging on for a bit longer. Do you get Ameteur Gardening magazine? they're usually full of advice about that sort of thing....I'm going to see if this weather holds first. Today I bought another colocasia called 'Black Magic' it's only little atm...but I have high hopes. www.willowaynurseries.com/Images/19ColocaBlackMagic.jpgI bought a colocasia today, Cheery. It's an Illustrus, though I thought about the blackish one, but didn't think it would fit in where I want to put it. I want to pot in on first, as I need to change the border around a bit to accomodate it. Any suggestions as to compost?

I have one in houseplant compost and 2 in MP compost Keith...depends how big it is. I think that a good quality MP one would be OK. All mine are kept in pots atm..they don't cope with frost in my experience...altho I've only been growing them for a year.

All mine are kept in pots atm..they don't cope with frost in my experience...altho I've only been growing them for a year. It's only quite small, but thought what the heck, I will give one a go. I know it's not hardy, but needs to be kept dry over winter, much like a dahlia, I suppose. I've been reading up on them tonight and can't find much on Illustrus, but can find some info on Illustris. The printed label definately says Illustrus! It's going to go near to the banana, buried in it's pot, so bringing in will make things easier. My banana is shooting out it's second leaf and this rain we have had, should have done it good.
