I know I am being lazy, but what clematis is this, it is on a south facing wall? Keith I'm of out now, so catch you later.

It looks like Florida Siebodii which hasn't quite had enough sun yet. With a bit more sunshine the petals should fade to cream and you should have a purple "frill" around the stamens.

Thanks Plocket, what type is it and how should it be pruned?

It's a group 3 clematis so should be pruned down to about 12 or 18 inches in late February/early March. It's a little bit tender so should be protected a bit in winter, even if on a sheltering wall. Mine's in a pot so I untangle as much as the growth as possible and wrap it up into a sort of ball, then cover with a cloche. If the winter is going to be severe (which I haven't experienced up here in 5 years!) I'd wrap the pot in bubble wrap or fleece as well.
I hope that helps you Madon - give me a shout if you've got more questions!! Px

Brilliant, thanks again. BTW that other one (rubrimaginata) is doing well this year still in the pot, so will take some cuttings later on and re site it later.
