Just thought I'd sing the praises of one of my favourite summer annuals - this one self seeded in my cold frame so it's flowering very early - I love them.

I have grown some from seed this year for the first time, so hope mine will look as good as yours, 4P! Keith

They are sooo easy to grow Keith and once you have them in the garden the seeds are very easy to collect and store. They're so pricy I was amazed at how big and easy to collect the seed are - I got 300 from the plants in my garden last year! £3.09 for a packet of 15 seeds I paid.........

Cerinthe major purpurea - I cannot praise it highly enough - every garden should have a clump or 33! There is a yellow form too but I just love the blue/purple sheen of this one. It's such a sophisticated looking plant but really easy to grow. Would you like some seeds - I think mine are still okay. PM your address if you would Maggyd. Anyone else want some?

They are expensive and I only got 8 seeds. Admittedly they all germinated! If what you say is right, I won't need to buy seeds again, phew!! Keith

Me too 4P! They look wonderful and I need more blues/purples to counteract the sea of pink I have at the moment!

A friend gave me some seeds which have all germinted, but I'm not sure where to put them : How big do they grow and do they need lots of sun? Ideally can I put them in a container?

Morning Plocket, they grow to about 24", and they seem to be quite unfussy about position although I think sunny wouldbe better - but they are quite floppy. They grow over path edges etc to look their best I think so in a container they might need some support. They'd still look beautiful though!

Excellent! I'd better start thinking about where to plant them before they become pot-bound then!!!

This is the first year I haven't grown any and my weeding has been so thorough that I don't think any self seeded ones would survive.... can you save me some 4P and bring them along when you come over in June? then I'll sow them in the autumn for over-wintering in the CF... fankoo

Did anyone see Carol singing the praises of Cerinthe major on GW tonight? I tell you - I have my finger on the pulse of horticultural fashions! Anyone want to know what's going to be "in" next year? I know you know!

I shall have to consult the mystic couch grass patterns on the bottom of the compost heap......then it will become clearer...I see grasses (still), native wild flowers (wishful thinking) and green roses..........with a hint of the healing/soporific powers of Fennel tea........and Monty wearing a teflon jerkin......
