Has anyone got a Deutzia? I bought a Weigela and a Deutzia from Wilkinson's the other day, just one pound each and really healthy plants, but there was the usual problem of where to fit them in...eyes far too bigger than stomach, the same old story!!! I've managed to squeeze the Weigela into the shrub border and could probably crowbar in the Deutzia too, but alternatively was thinking of keeping it in a pot. It's a Deutzia Scabra which gets up to 10ft high and 6ft wide.Do you think it would be happy in a pot? Anyone know?

Thanks The witch. It says on there it's becoming a weed in eastern Kentucky. With weeds like that....lovely isn't it!!!! I know just the spot for it in a pot, on the patio in dappled shade. Thanks again!

Debbie - I've found Deutzia scabra in my Dr. Hessayon flowering shrub book it says - The popular species D. scabra is grows to 6 foot and bears it's large clusters of white blooms in June/July. Site and soil: Not fussy - any well drained garden soil will do. Thrives best in light shade. Pruning: After Flowering, cut back shoots which have bloomed. Remove old, unproductive wood. Propagation: Plant hardwood cuttings in the open in late autumn.

Thanks The witch, it's going to like the spot I've got planned. When it gets big enough in the pot we'll have to find a 'grounded' place for it.

Dr. Hessayon doesn't mention it being frost tender, Debbie
