Has anyone tried growing these? Is it right you have to have two plants, if so any ideas as to which variety/ies to have? Wife loves them at Christmas, so might be worth a go, especially as I don't appear to have any squirrels around to nick them!! Keith

I planted three about 10 years ago and they are just starting to fruit well. You can't imagine the thrill I got last Autumn picking my own nuts. Coo! I bought mine from Buckingham Nurseries I think. I dunno about the number you need - I just got the number I had room for. And no idea which variety either but they're yummy! I planted a purple nut too at the same time and that has been much slower to grow and hasn't fruited yet. Well, I'm being very helpful, aren't I??

Thanks, folks. 15ft apart! Do they really have to be as far apart as this? Still maybe alright though.

Have a look here Keith www.buckingham-nurseries.co.uk. In the Fruit section it has several Hazels. Btw my best fruiting trees aren't 15 ft apart, more like 5ft! They need coppicing this year though..

Thanks 4P. I will see if we stay here and if so, maybe give them a go. The worry is how long it takes for them to fruit.
