I have no idea.
I only put it in late last summer, and it's my first clematis.
Does anyone know about clematis on this board???
Anyone?

About August last year. It's only a foot high at the moment - and by and large looks dormant except for a couple of buds.

Not too worried But I should have got a sequoia instead. In six months the clematis has given me 2 little green blobs about 6mm across. A sequoia would be 4 foot taller in that time ;D How do you tell a clematis to pull it's finger out?

I wouldn't worry about it - clems are prettier than Sequoias and won't take over your garden - unless you are me of course ;D It's been establishing itself and has had to cope with winter - give the poor thing a chance!!!

I don't think Keith was referring specifically to clems. In one episode of TGL the adorable and irresistably huggable Barbara (Flis) talked to her seedlings to encourage them to grow.
