A nice man has severely cut down the trees and hedging which runs the length of my Mum's barn, approx 100 ft over the weekend end. I asked him if he wanted the shreddings but he actually pays to have them dumped so I asked him to leave them. So I am the proud owner of a nice big heap of lovely green shreddings , quite a big heap but nothing too massive. The funny thing is how very odd my family are being about this heap - it's well out of the way, it's biodegradable and it will be used as a weed suppressant and to cover some paths.....my sister has asked me repeatedly if I really want it throughout the day and even my OH made a comment about how much there is.....I can't understand it! My BiL has dumped piles of unwanted sand and rubble, even old trailers have stood there for months, with no one batting an eye....what is wrong with my shreddings? I was quite thrilled about it as it is sooo expensive to buy - am I missing something here? They seem to think I've gone mad......

Ignore them....if needs be you can point out to your sister about the aforementioned piles of cement & rubble...but just let them stew....it will add nutrients to the soil, act as a weed suppressant and look lovely. They are being ignorant I'm afraid.....it's cos they aint gardeners...... ;D

No...that's still intact ;D we went all the way to Rutland and had a mooch about. I nearly bought lots of stuff.....but ended up with just the myrtle and some really ancient battered pots...they belonged to the GC owner but I was drooling over them..thin clay 4" pots...a bit chipped but he let me have all 6 for £2 ;D...they look ancient...I'm so chuffed.. am I mad?

Of COURSE not! Well...not really..........I have a little Myrtle shrub by the front door - it has gorgeous little white starry flowers on it. I dunno if it's the same as yours though....
Old pots are nice aren't they? I once bought 3 sacks full at a local auction..never did find a use for them but they are lovely! They were smaller than 4" though. What are you going to do with yours?

Bury them 3/4 down in the border fill with compost and sew herbs thyme or something that doesnt grow very tall! : Or you can always use them for crocks in the bottom of pots if you dont use them ;D Oh and 4Ps tell them that shredded bark is expensive! you could make a natural path with it couldnt you? I wish I lived near you I would take a bag off you I didnt get enough for my raised bed! its great for supressing weeds and the worms drag it down supposeidly.

I got some funny looks at the lottie when I first arranged a delivery, but they are all keen to have them now, take no notice just start spreading, it will soon disappear. I think you have done well, they will agree in time. ;D
