Hope this isn't a daft question, but can you split Vincas when bought from a GC? I saw some the other day, but priced at £6.99 for a 2l pot, thought they were expensive. They were good plants, but really wanted two or three smaller ones, penny pinching again, I know. I was going to try one of the nurseries near us that I haven't tried yet, but that means going on my own, well with the boys, to a new place, something I hate doing. This is when I hate my illness and I am not going to take a liitle white tablet just for a plant! Or do I hang on until the weekend, when we can all go together to the new place? Oh and at the GC I can get 10% off today, as I belong to a garden club there.

First of all - are you quite sure you want Vinca minor in your garden? It runs riot in mine and I rue the day I planted it....... If you do - then it is very easy to split and roots very easily. In fact ONE plant I put in the little strip along the front of the barn has managed to spread all over the place and I have to pull it out whenever I get the chance......don't let me put you off though Keith dear ;D The variegated one is very pretty and Vinca does have lovely sky blue flowers. (In fact if Jennifer ever comes up the Thetford again - give me a shout and she can come and take buckets of the stuff away!)

Actually Keith - is it the plain green type you want? I have just popped down to let a howling cat indoors and noticed a new clump has rooted itself in my ivy chimney pot! I bet I could wrap it up and send it without too much damage, it is bomb proof......would you like some?

I know what it's like, I had it in my Oakham garden, but it was there before I was. I just want a quick growing groundcover plant for a shady border and thought of this one. Give me 20 minutes and I might change my mind. Not sure when Jennifer is that way again, I'll ask her tonight when she comes in. She's at head office again. Maybe I could hang on for a while, that would save me some money!! Keith Your not going to believe this, she has just phoned as I was typing, wanted me to fax something from here! She will be your way sometime in the next 4/6 weeks, but can I wait that long? That won't be fair though, she seeing your garden before/without me!!

It really was this one I wanted, but let me think about it, beggars can't be chosers can they. www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/shrubs/perennials/vinca-minor-atropurpurea/classid.2000002685/They have it at £5.99, a pound cheaper, though with postage it would be dearer obviously. Let me think, got to go and pick kids up.
