I googled and found a reference to 10 - 30 cms a year, The witch. That was the common Yew, Taxus baccata. Also it will grow quicker in the open than in the shade, obvious I know but relevant if you are considering planting a hedge of it. There are other types of Yew which grow slower than that.

We've got a Taxus Baccata - it cost next to nothing to buy barerooted in the Hedging Dept of the GC. It's been in over a year and I can tell it's growing, and really well so it's not so very slow....I've seen one in a container in the GC, about 4-5ft, it was beautiful at about £35.

You know I don't think that's all that slow The witch. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised at how quickly it filled out......
