I was telling Sweetie about these but thought you might all be interested..I saw a clump of Mexican Sunflowers recently and they are gorgeous! I have never seem them before. They are a bit like a cross between an English Marigold and a Sunflower - big flowers, nice bushy habit, very long lasting and apparently a magnet for butterflies and bees. After a bit of googling I found them on Chilterns Seeds website: www.edirectory.co.uk/pf/pages/Default.aspThey are very poor photographs of them, the clump I saw was 3'/4' tall and still smothered in flowers and buds last week. I shall send for them anyway!

Just noticed that T&M are selling Mexican Sunflower seeds in the Special Offer section - buy 2 packets, get another free - at £1.49 each, I think that's very reasonable. The list is P118 in my catalogue (Tithonia rotundifolia).

just the name in itself is beautiful - 'Mexican Sunflower', it conjures up images of orange and red for me - I'll look them up.

Thanks 4pygmies, those will fill a gap in our garden quite nicely, just need to work out if I have room for the seeds to grow somewhere! Some sorting out to do!

Cheery I think you have more seeds than Thompsons ;D They look a cross between a gebera and a dahlia to me.

You're not wrong there Maggyd. ;D I saw them growing in a friend's garden last year and they were really gorgeous - a nice big, tall clump and with such a nice texture to the flowers. He was impressed with how the flowers kept coming, it was late September when I saw them and they were still covered in blooms. Very nice.

It says February to March on my packet Cheery - away you go! ;D
"Place in a propagator with a temperature 20-30C. Do not exclude lght, germination will take 7-21 days. Transplant seedling into 3" pots. Plant out after all risk of frost in well drained soil in full sun spacing plants by 30cms"
