Its funny but I'm sure the flowers on this plant were supposed to be lilac? I think MIL said a name beginging with L? Waiting for a reply to a picture text, but may be a while if she's working.

I think it's a Geum...did you say it had strawberry plant shaped leaves Emsey? If so it's prolly Geum 'Mrs J Bradshaw' Does it look like that?

It is far more like one of the Potentillas than a Geum. Hard to say which one exactly, but the colour is most like one called Gibson's Scarlet, but it could be Miss Willmott, they are very similar when photographed.

From how you describe the leaves Emsey, and that you thought it should begin with L and that it should be lilac, .......a Lavatera? The flowers don't look like one though.

I think it was supposed to be a lavatera but pehaps mil had pulled up the wrong plant. It looks like ob's pic, so I think he and The witch are right. Have looked at gibsons scarlet and miss wilmot cant decide, prolly more like miss wilmot.

Finally got to talk to mil, and it is a potenilla, which one is a mystary, but one I can live without solving! Thanks guys!
