Well OK, I know that it's hardly been a 'normal' year so far (when DO we get a 'normal year!?) ...BUT it's far enough along in the season for you to consider the performance of this year's sowing...have you any 'stars' of the border? any 'no shows'...do tell.....
The star this year has to be the Malva 'Magic' hollyhock...so far anyway. (there's a pic on my garden thread)...altho I love the gazania 'kiss bronze' jolly cheerful in this awful gloomy weather. Veg wise the Lady Crystl taters were scrumptious.
Failures....echinacea purpurea....no germination at all (third year running)...& tomato gartenperl....chucked them...I don't think they liked the fluctuating temperatures...the really hot spring and the poor excuse for a summer...
well?

My Cerinthe, it's going mad! My Sorbus is looking better than last year. My Echinacea purpurea are doing well so far! So is my Teasel. My veg in pots have been a mixed success. Stephen's Beetroot is doing well, my Dwarf Runners are doing well, Jennifer's Peas are picking up after they got attacked by snails, they were using my chocolate mint as a ladder to get to the plants, I saw them doing it once!! But sadly Craig's carrots have not been very good at all! My Tomatos Ailsa Craig (wonder why we went with that variety?) are doing great, especailly as it's the first time I have sown them. I normally use Gardener's Delight! One disaster was my potted Musa Basjoo, rotted off in the wet weather, but my Sikkimensis, I bought from GWL is doing much better! I know the Sorbus or Banana were not sowings, but thought I would mention them, anyway! Alright I made a mistake!! Keith

Failures..... Im not too sure if you have all got time to read them, my Runners look like they may pick up, but Ill count them as a failure Beets failed to germinate think they rotted instead, spinach ran to seed while I rotted at home.. Sunflowers been eaten alive by slugs and snails. Think Ive lost my Gypsophila again, 8 plants this time, all planted differently Everthing else is just slow to grow, still alive but not really going to come to much unless the weather picks up. To sum it up, IM not impressed!

Well, my garden gave up the ghost and succumbed to weeds a lot earlier than usual...by May I was struggling and now - well, it's just hopeless.......the wet weather meant I couldn't strim or mow regularly enough and it's just a jungle out there..... but - the PT and GH are full up and fine, the sunflower patch looks beautiful, I have managed to clear enough of the veggie garden to grow some onions, peas, carrots, garlic, beans and the asparagus bed looks fantastic! AND my spuds haven't got blight (so far...) And I have grown millions of baby toads in the garden this year. And everything is very green.......
