Anybody know anything about these? A friend of mine has a plant growing in her garden - she thinks it might be a bulb, one of loads her mother gave her (she's not a gardener), it has never flowered (2/3 years old she thinks). It has very strong brown blotches, almost giraffe like, on its stem and long thinnish green leaves with slightly frilled edging. The plant is about 24" high and dies down in winter. Her garden is quite damp and the plant is growing in shade right by a brick wall. In fact it has a trampoline right over it! It has several new shoots, all with this strong marking and there is a baby one growing about 6" away. I think it might be some sort of Voodoo lily but I can't find a site with clear enough pictures of the leaves and stem to ID it for certain. They all seem to concentrate on the flower which isn't much help to us. Can anybody help please?

No? Nobody knows anything about Voodoo lilies then.......ah well. Back to Google then. Ive been looking in my encyclopedia lots of lillies 4Ps but they tend to show you the flowers not the leaves and there is no sign of a Voodo o lilly. Sorry.

Thanks for looking though Maggyd. I appreciate it. I shall have to go and get a picture I think. It may not be a Voodoo lily even! I get cross when I can't identify a plant - and this a spectacularly odd one. I'm hoping she'll dig me up the little babby one and let me take it home.....

Ooh, The witch, that last link sells Sanguisorba plants! Those are the ones I tried to grow from seed this Spring, with no luck. Can I afford to buy 1 or 5, I wonder....?
I'm pretty certain now that the plant my friend has IS a Voodoo lily. How exciting! Thanks for your help.

Just a slim chance that someone will find this interesting but I've managed to keep the baby of the mystery plant alive in the GH all summer and I think it is a Voodoo lily. The frilly edges of the leaves are showing now. I wonder if it will ever flower...?
