My Son sent me this pic; of his cherry tree which is growing something strange Any Ideas what it is?

It's hard to tell from the picture Maggyd, it's a bit small but it looks like a fungal growth (I'm sure you know that!). I would imagine the extreme damp and heat has provided ideal conditions for them. It doesn't look like a bracket growth which is good as they damage the tree. I would be tempted to leave it for a while and see if some hot dry weather discourages it. Otherwise your son could remove it (carefully, wearing gloves and preferably a mask) if he thinks it's a disfigurement.

I forgot to add that it is in his garden in France, he has a holiday home there so his garden gets a bit neglected as he only goes school holidays.

I suggest he has a look around his neighbours gardens then Maggyd. It might be perfectly normal. It might even be a rare delicacy worth a fortune!.......

Could be 4ps only trouble is his French isnt that good yet He,s working on it. I think he should remove it as you suggested earlier, we were there last October for a few days and I thought the trees were to close together and very old well past their best .
