I apologise if everyone in the whole world but me knows this, but a gardening friend of mine told me to pinch the tops out of all my Sedums in June (bit late, I know...), just before the flowers start to form, to keep them nice and bushy. She said they root really quickly at this time of year. Which is true, as I did exactly that and now have lots of little babies growing, just by shoving them in pots in the GH. The original plant is still making flowers so I'm really pleased. I am getting quite a few different Sedums as they like my soil and climate (well, my usual climate is dry and hot in summer...) so I'm going to do the same with them all next year. It felt a bit brutal to pinch out all the growing tips at this time of year but the parent plant doesn't seem to have noticed the stop to it at all. So that's good. This means that when I actually manage to rip out the secret/weed garden and turn it back to a flower garden in the Autumn I shall be able to line the paths with Sedums and Lavenders (grew lots of them from seed this year). I think that'll look lovely (this is Plan 235 for that particular space....). So if you have any Sedums - nip out the tips that don't have flowers on them now (that was the point of this : ) and pop them into pots. S'really easy.

I've popped some, which have fallen off the parent plant straight into gravel.

Subtle, aren't you? I don't know if they'll be rooted enough to separate in time for the BBQ or Barnsdale but if they are I'll bring you some baby ones...ok? If not, they'll have your name on them for another meet up.

Do you want me to do cuttings of some of my sedums for you Sweetleaf? I've got a nice purpley leaved one and a lovely red-flowered one. Both are a reasonable size too. That's a good tip 4P - a bit late for this year but I'll try and remember for next year

I saw this tip on GW a few weeks ago...and dutifully hacked mine back (didn't think to root any of the cut off bits tho...) It looked awful and OH was horrified...BUT it's now looking much perkier than it was before and has really bushed out

They look like miniture pink Hogweed. Do they? But there are some quite nice small sedums, and the only reason I got mine is because it has purple leaves
