Are you going to have the curved border I suggested or are you buying more turf still?

Are you going to have the curved border I suggested or are you buying more turf still? Not decided yet. Still have roots and rubble to shift, and the mismatch of lawn heights on the left to sort - which will probably need a few turves.

Probably will, we couldnt have done anything with that, without tearing up existing turf to get the level, shame really.... wish we had, in retrospect, but you didnt have enough turf to do that anyway did you?

It's OK, I like the idea of the slope there - it will give it character. But I need to make sure that it is gentle enough so that I can mow it.

You could lift the edge and pack it with topsoil, then maybe seed the gaps? Does that make any sense?

Even 4P can only just see over that handlebars!

They're still pretty good with the flamethrowers but they're getting on you know - heavy machinery's too much for them.......it's too much for me too mostly! When I say overgrown, I am not exaggerating. I had to stamp a way through it in the pouring rain tonight so they could find their way to the hen house........didn't tread on any rats, thank goodness, but I made sure I was singing the RATBUMS rallying song just to put the fear of somebody's god into them. And what cheek! Of course I can reach the handlebars! It's just a slight problem pulling the cord, standing on the wheels (I pull so hard I lift it off the ground - eeh, mighty muscles, they call me) and holding the bar thingy so it'll start - a major feat of co ordination. If it doesn't go first pull, I fall off and scream for assistance!

My black eyed Susans are looking pretty unhappy with this cold weather. I've put them back into the greenhouse.

Sigh..........

A couple of mine look like they've curled up and gone to the big compost heap in the sky as well.

I've spent a fine morning sorting out plants - repotting and planting out. I finally managed to get a big enough bit of ground weeded for my sunflowers so I planted out a mixture of Russian Giant, Elite, Sunspot, Claret and Velvet Queen in an area about 6ft square. I wanted a much bigger patch initially but I have a big self sown potato there and I haven't the heart to pull it out. I'll eat the spuds first! I've also repotted three crates of herbs as I am selling at a big country fayre on Saturday and they wouldn't let us sell our cottage garden plants as they have two other stalls booked. We are supposed to be selling wild flowers and herbs but quitea few cottage garden plants are categorised as herbs so I'll be taking them too So I got a fair bit done but then the heavens opened. Which was good as the sunflowers got a good soak. OH also mowed the grass in the main bit of the garden with Mum's ride on mower. The petrol mower wouldn't have managed as the grass was so long...it couldn't cut the grass in the orchard though. Which means I've lost control already....about a month earlier than usual.....oh well.

Gosh it sounds like you had a satisfying morning 4P....(!) nothing like a bit of gaaaaardening to nurture a soul ay?. Hope your back's OK hon.
I spent the late afternoon spreading a thick bark mulch on me flower bed...crawling about amongst the plants to try and get it nice and thick...the echiums, marigolds and phacelia are a bit unruly...dunno if I can stand it...they're sprawling all over the shop...I'll never have a tidy garden, all my carefully executed planting plans have come to naught (again) as plants turn up in the wrong place and are just too darned beautiful for me to whip out...sigh...I used 140 litres of bark, but I reckon I need 2 more bags...have to wait until one of my sisters can be persuaded to take me to a GC again...
