;D Laundry marker pens are much better than gardening marker pens. And they have much finer nibs for tiny labels!
Also ice cream tubs make brilliant seed trays (specially if you've sown in loo roll inner tubes - just right for keeping them upright) and the lids cut up make good labels.
The bags shops and GH's use to hold loose bird food and peanuts are exactly the right size to slide over a seed tray to create a warm environment for germination.
The little plastic trays you buy mushrooms etc in supermarkets are really useful half size seed trays. The clear ones peaches and tomatoes come are really good for either trays or propagator lids.

Thanks 4P - I will try to add to the list, if I can think of something that is.

Those drinking yoghurt thingies (yoplait and the like) make excellent cane toppers.
Fluff from your tumble dryer can be put in the compost!
Teabags and used kitchen roll (after you've wiped a surface or something) are excellent to go at the bottom of small plant pots before filling with soil.
Corks make good crocks for the bottom of larger pots.
Crumbled corks make a good mulch.
Brilliant thread 4P! ;D

Water bottles and lemonade bottles make really good mini cloches at this time of year. The HUGE square bottles with handles are really good over baby courgette plants as they have more room. I grow block plantings of lettuce under them too to keep slugs off. If you stick a cane down the middle it stops them blowing away.

Fluff from your tumble dryer can be put in the compost! Goodness really I thought only things that have once lived could go into a compost bin.

Apparently it can go in - it stops the compost from getting too ikky! I tend to keep the fluff to go in the bottom of my small plant pots to stop the soil falling out, and then the whole lot goes into the compost bin afterwards.

Great thread!
Got too much stuff loaded in your garden cart like cuttings and branches? A few bungee cords quickly strap over the heaping load so the mess doesn't fall out as you make your way to the compost area.

Good one, C3D!
Surround hostas with charcoal and catmint and the slugs wont find them .....honest!

I thought I'd heard something about tumble drier fluff going in the compost from somewhere, and this confirms it - great! Great thread too.

If you're growing peas and need some pea sticks - use your Buddleja trimmings. They support the peas and root over the summer because you remember to water them. Simple but efficient.

I think most stores which stock a decent array of pens and writing materials would have them - WH Smiths? Woolies? Hardware shops? Good old Roys of Wroxham is where I get mine (but in Thetford, confusingly).

Making cane wigwams for peas can be a quick and easy job if you use the bottom of the plastic pot you cut off for growing toms, poke holes in it and insert the canes and you have a perfect device for holding the tops of the canes , re-usable too! ;D

Aye, I'm fine. I watched the footie and Life on Mars together...didn't want to miss either. Coo, Life on Mars was actually a satisfactory end- such a relief. And the football was brilliant - even if it was Man U....I tried to go to bed but the neighbours Rottweiller is outside and barking. It's winding me up - poor old dog (but BIG, so I'm not going round there one me own in the dark!). Why can't people let their dogs in at night?? Then I started to cough..... How are you? Oops better not chat on this thread - meet you on Banter - unless you're off to bed.
