Do you think we could create a virtual garden? I mean something that we can all contribute to as if we were doing a competition and perhaps even get someone clever (not me!!!) to draw it up on Excel or whatever. I got the idea when 4P was talking about the iron bridge, so think that would make a lovely feature. Of course we'll need the pond experts to create the right water feature for us ;D
Any initial thoughts to start of with? For me I wouldn't mind there being a wall along one side of the garden, where we can have some clematis and possibly climbing roses.
And how big do you think the garden should be?

HUGE! With lovely old 9ft high brick walls all around and buttresses for mini habitats.....fruit cage, ornamental vegetable beds with flowers for cutting. Wondrous herb bed divided into medicinal, culinary, beautifying, interspersed with orchard trees including a medlar, quince, crab apple as well as apples, pears, plums etc. Espalier figs, apricots and peaches along a sunny wall. Hot beds for melons etc. Glass houses for toms, aubergines, peppers etc. And decorative herbaceous flower beds all around with Clematis sprinkled all over.......huge pond in the middle with lilies et al. And through a rustic gate a small paddock with stables housing Golden Guernsey goats and my darling pygmies. A large covered enclosure next to this for a glorious array of rare breed chickens with shrubs for shade. Not that I've thought about it much........ Oh, and a massive Manor house which we live in communally in harmony and lots of laughs....and I forgot about the vineyard and cider press barns.... Plus all the water wheels, windmillls etc etc....

Wow 4P - wonderful, amazing etc. etc. ;D But the garden must be on a slope to allow for a water fall and water course leading to one pond. There would be a small lake stocked with trout, in the centre of the lake would be a small island as a place of safety for some ducks - but don't ask me which breed. ;D

Good grief, 4P, you really have thought of this, haven't you? How about canons on the walls in case we get infiltrated!!??
Keith
P.s. Good idea though.

Ease up ease up!!! We can't fit a lake into this garden!!! A good sized pond yes but I think a lake is stretching it slightly!!! Imagine a Chelsea Show Garden sized plot - that's more what I was aiming at!!! ;D

4P and The witch I love your thinking. ;D O' heck Plocket - now we really have got to put our thinking caps on. I love hot colours - thinking Mediterranean (sp) and cottage gardens. But don't think you can mix those in such a small space.? I'll try and think about it while i'm doing the housework.

I think to incorporate all these wishes we should be thinking in terms of our own island, probably the size of Jersey with sustainable solar wind and tidal power, a biodome so we can grow our food virtually all year round ...... no rats, a forest with red squirrels and deer in it, and a small brewery... for the residents, and the occasional barter.

Right so let's update. We've got a stream leading to a pond, with possibly a huge iron bridge, but with our totally unlimited budget I don't see why we can't commission a slightly smaller one. I think we need to have a biodome or greenhouse for the tender fruits and veggies but I'm not sure how a modern looking one would fit in with the more cottagy look of the bridge - something to think on - another commission perhaps? Ideas required please peeps!!!
We must also have the trees that 4P mentioned - or at least some of them - medlars etc. It would be nice to have a few birch trees I think but they might have to be left out. Perhaps we could have a med-feel in a courtyard/patio area - more thoughts on that needed.
How about the pond is near to a patio? Then a path could wind alongside the stream, with the trees on one side, and then we'd get to the bridge where we cross over to get to the biodome/greenhouse?
I still haven't worked out how to fit the goats into this but I'm working on it!!!

Right this is an idea of it so far - I hope you approve. I need to know where the stream is going to go to, and where the bridge should be. Is the pond big enough? Is the biodome big enough? Do we need any more structure, other than the bridge and wall? None of it's to scale btw!!!!! I'm working on the principle that the patio is about 4m x 4m

I think the stream shoud wend its way through the trees after cutting past the goats and chickens and go through the pond and out the other side, maybe the bridge could be somewhere in the middle so you could reach the animals without getting your feet wet?

So should I move the patio and pond further into the garden so the stream can come out the other side?

Sounds OK to me. How big is the Biodome, Plocket? Do we have to have a square patio? Keith

Oh clems and roses will come into it!!! Some will be on the patio, and then there's the borders to consider - we haven't started to think about them yet - look at all that space on the left!!!!!

No the patio doesn't have to be square - what shape do you want it Madon? I've no idea how big the biodome is - I've estimated about 4m in diameter but I'll need someone more knowledgeable to say whether that's big enough
