Forsythia is prone to Fasciation along with delphiniums, lilies and verbascum. It could be caused by either genetics, insects, weather, chemical or bacterial damage. So if you see any distortion or twisted stems it could be "fasciation" www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profiles0700/fasciation.asp

I've given up growing Delphiniums - the slugs get to them far quicker than any fasciation. In fact, if they survived long enough to get a dose of fasciation I'd be happy.

Same here, Debbie I grow Monkshood, for the look of delphiniums without the risk, its poisonous to slugs (and humans !) Apparently it was one of the reasons Kings (in ye olden dayes) had food tasters ......they must have eaten a lot of cold food though,as the symptoms arent immediate.

Thanks Sweetleaf, I'll look into getting some Monkshood too - poisonous to slugs? Now that would be an interesting thread too...what they CANNOT eat yippee! I've got some obvious ones in the garden as they are totally left alone, but surely someone must have written a book about it by now?

Great thanks Sleepy. We went to the Park Resorts at Bideford Bay - the weather was fantastic! The children tried to ruin us financially by the "Can I have a pound please? (for the arcade). But we weren't alone, all the parents seemed to be getting harrassed for that last one pound. .. Several poundloads later....anyway, we survived! I was the same though, but only pennies when I was their age. It's a funny thing, they had the pool, playground and loads of other things, we went for walks in the wood but yet again the arcade got ther better of us. But at night, all the children seemed to congregate at the playground happy just to play and not spend!!! Still, I got a nice few Fuchsia cuttings from this amazing Fuchsia 'tree' in the woods with creamy- white flowers, no other colours. Hopefully one will survive. Did you do anything nice?

I had the neighbours round on Friday evening. We sat in the garden with a couple of bottles of wine and crooned through as many songs from the 60s and 70s that we could remember. On Saturday Sweetie and Mick came round for afternoon tea. On Sunday I took Hitler to her Neices for afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday. And on Monday Hitler and I went to a friends for dinner to celebrate Easter. Fitted a trip to the GC in on Friday afternoon, and got a lot done in the garden. Planted two clems - Golden Tiara and Freckles. Back in harness today. Sounds like you've had a great time. And the weather made your weekend a real treat. A holiday to remember eh?
