Found in the greenhouse. Anyone recognise it? It's a Longhorn Beetle - Leptura maculata It is not a problem to gardeners. I believe it feeds on pollen and lays it's eggs in dead wood.

Ooh-It looks a horrible thing--Where about was it in the Greenhouse? Under a Pot? or just lurking around? I have never seen anything like it before. It seems as though they are both the same with different names ;D I have just Googled it on the internet and this is what it says-- "Longhorn beetle Rutpela maculata (Strangalia maculata) Rutpela maculata is a frequent Shropshire longhorn beetle. It can often be found on flowers, such as hogweed and wild rose. A walk along any woodland ride in June - July should provide sightings of this attractive yellow and black beetle"

Oh no, we do not kill anything until it becomes necessary. They have as much right to life as we do. It was in the greenhouse, under a growbag. I took it out, photographed it and then it flew away to eat the pollen on which it feeds. No doubt the resident newt would have eaten it!

I wouldn't kill it either--even if it was 'Foe'-I would carefully 'pick it up' in a plant pot and put it as far as posible away from my garden-- I bet you got a surprise when you lifted that pot--you are brave ;D to take a photograph of it aswell- Now Slugs and Snails I can hapily dispose of them without feeling guilty- Bigs
